A quick answer to the GOP regarding Foleygate
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 10:24 AM by Armstead
As a liberal and progressive, and a reasonably decent human being, I totally support the rights of gays, both in legal terms and in terms of being accepted simply as people.

I do not support the rights of adult predators to engage with minors below the age of consent in man-boy sex, woman-girl sex, man-girl sex, woman-boy sex. Nor do I support the right of attempt to entice minors into such behavior with lewd conversations or written correspondence.

I do support that predators still receive their normal legal rights in our judicial system, just as all citizens are entitled to under our Constitution. I also support giving them treatment to help them overcome their sickness. But supporting legal rights is not the same as supporting the behavior. It is the same as believing an alleged burglar is still entitled to legal rights. That is what our Constitution -- and our democratic values -- were designed to do by our founders.

Understand that distinction Rush and the rest of you who deliberatly mix up believing in Constitutional rights with supporting all behavior protected by the Constitution.

Tghat's the difference between our side and yours. You only believe the Constitution applies to actions you personally accept and approve of. And you only believe in tolerance when it is applied to people who are exactly like you.

And it is wrong and hypocritical when your party allows a spokesman and leader in the "traditional values" conservative movement to retain a position of influence and power while engaging in such behavior. That is a reflection on the actual morals of all who hold power in your party and movement, including those who do not engage in "non-traditional behavior" themselves.

That's the issue, Rush, Ben and all the rest of you. Got it?
