Foley had $2.7 million in his campaign coffers...what happens to it?
But his largest donation, to the National Republican Congressional Committee, of $100,000 this year, will still be used for Republican campaigns, a spokesman for the committee told the A.P.

Peter Canellos, the bureau chief in Washington for the Boston Globe, wrote on Tuesday that these large campaign war chests and redistricting have somehow given members of Congress a false sense of invulnerability.

And that reminds us. Mr. Foley had about $2.7 million in his campaign coffers, according to federal filings. Who gets that money? Mr. Negron? The Adam Walsh foundation?

2. It's apparently up to Foley to dispose of it
He can't just pocket it, but I think he can use it to pay his rehab bills and attorney fees. He could also turn it over to the RNC, which has said it would take it for use in other campaigns, no questions asked.

4. Unused campaign funds can be returned to contributors, sent (w/limits)
to other campaigns or issue groups, or given (unlimited) to charity or to the U.S. Treasury.

They can also be used to defray some legal costs -- I'm not sure if this qualifies or not.

They can't be used for the personal enrichment of the candidate.
