I, on the other hand, am strongly confident that we will win.
Of course, whether or not the vote-count will reflect this is another matter...

Nothing in Congress, no matter how angry the mob, happens overnight.
And nothing's going to happen AT ALL, in any respect, if we don't win both chambers. Congress will be pretty much completely gridlocked til 2008.

Why would a GOP Congress give the President infinite power for the duration of an eternal war unless they had reason to believe that they wouldn't have to face a Democrat in the Whitehouse any time soon.
My wife pointed out that the GOP has a poor track record re: thinking ahead, so it may simply be that they didn't look beyond the promise and seduction of immediate power.
I hope that she's right once again!

5. 2 years is not a long time, and not everything can be investigated either |

Not enough hours in the day, and not enough resources either. Choices will have to be made.
But right now, we should stay focused on the elections. We have not won anything yet. October is usually a very busy month over at Republican Dirty Tricks Incorporated.

7. Try 10- 20 years ... before an actual CHANGE in direction is achieved. |

I think people seriously underestimate the severity of a national condition that's deteriorated for thirty years! Globalization of capital with the accompanying hegemonistic forces ... elevation of entitlements above human rights ... taxation of the 'investor class' at HALF the rates of the 'working class' ... nine fucking years with no increase in the federal minimum wage (that's nine years of damage that needs to be undone) ... the assisted entrenchment of the ownership class in Mexico ... thousands upon thousands of abolished corporate regulations and regulatory oversight ... millions of people in prison and ex-'felons' deprived of voting rights ... the billions of never-to-be-recaptured years of childhood that will burden our body politic for decades to come.
How long does it take to undo the damage done by Katrina? (About 500 times as long as it took to do the damage.)
Unless people gird themselves for along, difficult fight - and PARTICIPATE in their own governance - 'winning' a single election may merely be a sleeping pill.
