Sixteen Candles for Soldiers
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 11:55 AM by Ava

Many teenagers turning 16 years old throw big "Sweet 16" parties. MTV has even created a TV program about the phenomenon of lavish parties. I want my 16th birthday to be different and make a difference rather than being just another "Sweet 16" party. That's why I'm throwing "Sixteen Candles for Soldiers." It's an event that is meant to honor and respect our troops by showing our support for them. We plan to demand they get the benefits they deserve and that they be brought home from this war we were lead into by liars. Every day brave Americans are dying as a result of this Administration's actions. It's up to us to demand the truth and accountability. Join me on October 21, 2006 at the State Capitol Steps in Montgomery, Alabama, and we'll show the Bush Administration what real support for our troops looks like.

We will protest and have a candle light vigil in honor of the fallen. There will be live music and speakers at "Sixteen Candles for Soldiers," so bring a friend or a whole crowd. If you are a musician or speaker who is interested in being part of Sixteen Candles for Solders please contact us. For more details on the event click here

3. Great idea. I hope it catches on with others turning 16...a little less
of the 'ego' thing and more to help those who deserve it! Happy Sweet Sixteen!!

5. You are single-handedly raising my opinion of Alabama.
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 12:13 PM by TahitiNut
... where I lived in 1963-64. That's no small feat. When I was one of the very few who, on November 22, 1963, wasn't saying "it's about time someone shot that s-o-b" ... my opinion was set in hard mud. Thanks for raining on it.

:hi:

7. I'd far rather focus on water-skiing in the bayous, ....
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 12:33 PM by TahitiNut
... eating red snapper on the causeway, enjoying the azaleas in the spring, strolling the campus of Spring Hill College in conversation with the Jebbies and other students, watching the drive-in movie with Ellen in my Rambler, and thinking about those who never give up in their efforts to make their communities better. Anyone who assists me in that quest is an ally. Thank you, ally!

28. just an update
hiya everyone. i had another musician volunteer to play today. the problem is that he doesn't have the money to afford the plane ticket to get here, so i'm trying to figure up how much it would cost and see if we can afford it. we are thinking about setting up a PTC fund that people can donate to that would help fund the protest. if anyone knows any local musicians that wouldn't have too much of a travel please pm them to me or post them here. i'm going to spend some more time tomorrow writing more bands.
