So does anyone know where Foley is now?
The news has reported he has checked himself into rehab, but there has been no confirmation of this by anyone that I have seen. The reason I ask this is because I am concerned that this sicko may try to take the easy way out and then the dialogue instantly changes from that of rage about the incident to muted questioning and mourning.

Case in point: In June of 2002, a Republican state legislator (Keith Westmoreland) here in Tennessee was arrested for exposing & stimulating himself in front of young girls in a hotel swimming pool. Then things started spiraling out of control as new allegations and information surfaced. Keep in mind, this man was in thick with the fundie crowd and echoed all of the usual Right-Wing talking points on a regular bass. Two days after being arrested, he committed suicide at his home. This instantly muted all the calls for investigation and stopped any talk of this being a widespread problem in certain political circles. It went from being a black mark for the Republicans in East Tennessee to something that could be swept under the rug with a simple "the man's dead, have some decency".

I don't want to see this happen in this case, because what this man has done is beyond reprehensible and he should be punished fully for his crimes. I want to see this problem stopped all throughout our government, where these people work for us and should act as the statesmen that they are supposed to be. I want this issue explored thoroughly and let the chips fall were they may. That's the difference between us and the Republicans - we actually care for the victims and want to do something about it rather than sweep it under the rug for political purposes. Make no mistake, this thing is huge and has yet to break. There's a reason why the Republicans are spinning out of control about this and it isn't because of Foley - he is but the tip of iceberg.

5. Licking his wounds in rehab, I think.
I definitely think he is trying to shift the focus away from the e-mail/IM scandal to his "drinking problem." I guess he figures he can get some sympathy if he claims to be an alcoholic.

No sympathy here, I promise you.

7. Alcohol
His spokesman said....""he is not a pedophile...everything he has done was when he was under the influence of alchohol"".....And did you hear that he was supposed to be voting on a bill, interrupted it and sent email messages. Now...if everything he did was under the influence, you mean he did something as important as voting on a bill while he was DRUNK....

9. Sure! Blame the alcohol!
What a great defense! I'm sure that will work really well in the case of being a pedophile and child molester (dare I say "rapist")!

Why hell, we should try that any time we get in trouble? Robbery, No problem, I was drunk and have a drinking problem! Speeding? No Problem, I was drunk and having a drinking problem! J-Walking? No Problem, I was drunk and have a drinking problem? Drug Posession? No problem, I was drunk and have a drinking problem?

For the party that preaches "personal responsibility", they sure have mastered their excuses.

10. Yeah, he was voting on the Defense Supplemental UNDER THE INFLUENCE
of alcohol? Heckuvajob, Foley....Because the latest IMs do indeed indicate he was setting up a tryst and waxing his carrot just prior to voting on it.....

Was the guy shitfaced 24/7? I think NOT. And booze is an unacceptable "excuse" for interfering with CHILDREN.
