Kiss of Death: Bush: You're doing a heckova job, Denny
Bush Echoes Hastert's Comments on Foley
By ANDREW TAYLOR
Associated Press Writer

House Speaker Dennis Hastert won a vote of confidence from President Bush and brushed aside any suggestion of resigning Tuesday as Republicans struggled with a virtual sex scandal involving a disgraced lawmaker and underage male pages.

"Families have every right to expect that when they send their children to be a congressional page in Washington, that those children will be safe," Bush said.

Hours after a conservative Washington newspaper called for Hastert's resignation, Bush referred to the speaker as a "father, teacher, coach" and said he supports Hastert's call for an investigation.

"I know Denny Hastert. I meet with him a lot. I know that he wants all the facts to come out," the president said.
