Wait a minute. What happened to the talk about the Military Com. Act? |
|
The stuff on Foley totally bumped that out.
<puting tin foil hat on> Why can't the Foley scandal be the October surprise? The republicans just passed the worst bill in the history of the US, and now no one is talking about it anymore. Anyone else find that odd?

1. There have been something like 5 threads I've seen started about this. |
|
Each were met with: "We can walk and chew gum at the same time!" (Most chewing gum, very few are walking) "Get over it! Americans don't understand politics but they DO understand peckers!" (May be true, way to set an example)
It's not like most people are trying to talk about it, mind you. Hardly anyone wants to talk about it, surprisingly enough.
But here, and maybe this is one out of left field (or will seem to be), here is what my intuition is telling me: That come election time every Republican candidate is going to be crowing about their victory. Those Democrats who voted for this in the Senate (12, IIRC) will have no choice but crow about how great it is, too, or deal with Republican challengers' accusations that they only voted for it for political reasons(which they did).
I think, if anything the talk will come after November. If Democrats win a majority (we've needed it more than ever) the huge battle of what needs to be done to repeal this odious legislation will be explored. But I doubt before then. If we don't win a majority in the Senate, those at DU who were upset by this whole crappy fiasco will be labelled the cause of the loss and therefor, unforgiveably damned.
So in my opinion, there's quite a bit a work here in regards to why this, as Ted Kennedy so simply and beautifully put it "One of the darkest days I've ever seen", isn't getting much airplay over here.
The people vote with thier messages and you can see what they vote for by the number of topics...the sheer number...of topics about Foley.
Though, of course, DU has no role in the Foley issue. Everything's coming out of the MSM. People are just commenting on it: Haggling about this or that.
Now working to disarm, stunt or slow the torture legislation is a bit unappealing to most.
