Is this the new RW meme? "It's all Carter's fault"?
I overheard a conversation in a restaurant this morning. Two people at the next table were arguing over the Iraq war. The man was clearly anti-Bush, and the other was a rightwing woman who kept insisting that from news reports she's heard, it's clear that "The whole Middle East crisis is Jimmy Carter's fault," because of his mishandling of Iran.

This is the first time I've heard Jimmy Carter blamed for Iraq. And this woman sounded way too stupid to have come up with the idea on her own.

Anyone else heard this?

1. "mishandling of Iran"?
Well, if they want to harp on that, they'd have to admit that it was Eisenhower's administration that started the ball rolling, when they ousted the democratically-elected Iranian PM Mossadegh, in the early 1950s!

2. Yea, I've hear this before
from some right wingers - not sure where they are getting the talking points from, - they do listen to Rush, etc. They are just trying to shove the problem to a dem president.

JC is blamed for the hostage crisis & the rise of radical islam in Iran when he was Prez. Should have forseen fall of the Shah and not let him into the US. Also, his failed effort to free the hostages are laughed at - only a few helicopters.

Counter point is that the Shah was corrupt and was put in place of an elected head of Iran by the CIA. Believe it was under Eisenhower. The oil companies were afraid that the elected pres was going to nationalize the industry so they labled him a commie in put the Shah in place. So much for the march to democracy.

6. I guess they've finally run out of things they can blame on Clinton.
Up next: "It was all FDR's fault!"

7. It's all Jefferson's fault.
Can't come up with a reason, but it has the intellectual equivalence of blaming it on Carter.
