Foley had an 84% approval rating from the Christian Coalition
I just heard the Concerned Women for American rep on CNN claiming that values voters don't just look to a single party, they look to candidates. Then she said that it was important to remember that Foley was NOT a pro-family candidate and was not someone that her voters would have supported.

But according to this site, the Christian Coalition said Foley was 84% compliant and had a pro-family voting record. http://www.ontheissues.org/FL/Mark_Foley_Families_+_Children.htm

As it turns out, her own organization gave Foley a rating of 92: http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_detail.php?sig_id=002901M

It's pretty entertaining watching these "values" folk try to spin this story away from their precious republican party.

3. I guess it would have been too much to ask a reporter to look that up?
It would have made the interview sooooooo much more interesting, doncha think? Especially if rep wasn't prepared w/ the standard talking points.

4. And as usual
Those dogged sleuths in the MSM looked into what she said and compared it to what is on her own website, right?

Oh, THAT MSM. I retract the question.

6. Why did Jesus lie to Concerned Women for America about Mark Foley?
Surely, they must have prayed for guidance before giving him a 92% rating.

Jesus is a LIAR!

Liar Liar Cross on fire!

8.  Religious Right Strangely Silent About Foley
Religious Right Strangely Silent About Foley

If there's one thing you have to concede to America's Religious Right, it's that these folks have an amazing media and public relations network and can issue press releases, get on television and radio and, when they really want to, mobilize their lemming-like flock faster than Jack Abramoff can bribe a Republican Congressman.

And yet here we sit, four days after it was revealed that Republican Congressman Mark Foley was using the Internet to go after teenaged boys, and all you can hear from our own little version of the Taliban is dead quiet and crickets chirping.

Odd, isn’t it? The same people who can move their followers to boycott any company that believes gay people even have the right to exist, can't muster much outrage over one of their own preying on young boys and, more importantly, the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives ignoring it to save their political hides.

With the news out since Friday, James Dobson's Focus on the Family (FOF) still doesn’t say a word about it on their web site. In fact, if you go there right now and do a search on "Mark Foley," the closest thing you'll find citing Foley is a statement from March 2006 entitled More Funding Needed to Combat Child Porn.

They quote Foley in that piece as expressing concern that children will continue to be victimized if Congress does not act more proactively against child predators.

"We are still not funding it enough," they quote Foley as saying. "This is one of the most pervasive, dangerous elements in our society."

You just can't make this stuff up

10. When I was a bit younger
like over 20 or 30 years ago (cough, cough) my mom voted Right To Life across the board. It didn't matter what else the person was or did or their point of view, it was just "RTL"

I always said to her that she ought to get to know her candidates before she votes... I said "you could be voting for hitler"
and her response was "as long as he is right to life..."

My mom passed a few years ago but I just want to say..."This is what I'm talking about, mom!"

11. Sheesh. That was then. This is now. How DARE you bring up recent ratings?
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 05:40 PM by antifaschits
Like we meant it or something.

Look, those ratings only apply as long as we say they apply, and if we decide, based on our own well-thought out and strict standards, (standards that only we know and only we decide to apply,) that they no longer apply, then they don't. Got it? So your effort to try to attach those OLD ratings to here and now is really an insult to our entire organization. Why do you hate Christianity so? Why do you hate Concerned Women of America so? Why do you hate America so?

my response? blow me.

15. Of course he did. I wish every Christian would figure out how they've
been played for the past 25 years by the Republican Party.

I mean to say, the Christians who haven't already figured it out.

Of course, we have many criminals hiding out in the "Christian values" brigade. May God, through this scandal help to separate the wheat from the chaff through the critical thought and wisdom of his followers.

Wake up! As we're always saying.

Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 07:02 PM by tjwash
CC: You contemptible pig. I remained celebate for you. I stood at the back of a cathedral, waiting in celibacy for you, with 300 friends and relatives in attendance. My uncle hired the best Romanian caterer in the state. To obtain the seven limousines for the wedding party my father used up his last favours with Mad Pete Trollo. So for me, for my mother, my grandmother, my father, my uncle and for the common good, I must now kill you and your lawyer.

<Foley gets up and slowly walks towards her.>

Foley:<Falling to his knees before her> Oh please don't kill us. Please, please don't kill us. You know I love ya baby, I wouldn't leave ya. It wasn't my fault.

CC: You miserable slug. You think you can talk you're way out of this? You betrayed me.

Foley: No, I didn't. Honest. I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locust's. IT WASN'T MY FAULT!!!! I SWEAR TO GOD!!!!

<Foley Takes off sunglasses and stares lovingly at the woman, while on his knees>

CC: Oh Mark, Mark, honey.

<Foley embraces the CC a passionate kiss, then drops them in the mud.>

Foley:<To Lawyer>Let's go.

Lawyer:<To the CC>: Take it easy.

For those here that are a little younger wondering where the hell that came from, it's one of the last scenes in "the blues brothers"
