That it involved an underage male is beside the point. For Republicans, the idea that two men would want to be naked together is far more disgusting than the idea that King Chimpy can throw you in jail at his own whim (though, for something they find so disgusting, they certainly enjoy thinking about it and focusing on it).

That the Republican leadership would not force a gay Republican to resign is the real crime as far as these "Values" Republicans are concerned. ie. They are not disgusted--like the rest of us--at the Republican leadership for not only refusing to force the resignation of a Republican who viewed the male page pool as his own personal harem but also tried (successfully, for five years) to cover it up, but at the fact that this predation was homosexual.

Even now, you see how they keep focusing on his being gay, when that is (for us normal folk) incidental: for them, it's not that the page is 16 that's the real perversion, but that the page is male.
