Some Question Foley's alcoholism

Some question Foley's alcoholism claim

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- When disgraced former Rep. Mark Foley announced he was entering rehab for treatment of alcoholism and "other behavioral problems," some of those who have known him for years were shocked and suspicious.

Some friends and acquaintances said they rarely saw him drink.

A former colleague, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said on Fox News Channel: "I don't buy this at all. I think this is a phony defense. The fact is, I think he's responsible for what he did here and I think it's a gimmick."

Foley abruptly resigned from Congress after being accused of sending lurid Internet messages to teenage boys who served as pages on Capitol Hill. The FBI and Florida law enforcement officials are investigating whether the Florida Republican violated any laws

1. It is the new Republican defense. Alcohol made me do it
Hell, the media gave Ney a free pass when he blamed alcohol for his criminal intent.

3. Joe Scarborough says it's BS......
so what is the real purpose of this "treatment", rehabbing the Republican Election chances?

4. Add me to the list of non-believers....
This is simply a crass attempt by Foley and, I have little doubt, the repub leadership to try and mitigate his actions. It won't work.

6. And me
It's to put off his arrest in the hope the furor dies down before that happens, a crass attempt to poison the potential jury pool in the hope that at least some potential jurors are stupid enough to think it's an excuse, and in the hope that it will get him a lighter sentence (also crass). The more recent announcement of him supposedly being molested when he was young is an even more crass than the "alcohol made me do it" gimmick.

I don't think he's fooling anyone and just making himself look even worse.

5. Even if he is an alcoholic, it doesn't excuse his behavior. Nor does
getting molested as a child.
