Calling all recovering people. Ever been in treatment? What
do you think of a treatment program that allows someone to log on to their Internet account during their first few days in treatment? I smell Church of Scientology here. Anybody else?

All these revelations within the first few days, wow! At this rate, he'll be released, cured of his gayness and married to a woman and on the campaign trail by next week!

12. We had visiting days after a week
Depends on the program I guess. I can't imagine any decent program giving internet privileges this soon though. Or letting a lawyer make statements, etc. What happened to no major decisions for a year? Outing yourself and telling the world about being molested is a pretty major decision.

4. I had a mild case of road rage
It was cured by a couple of sentences from a psychologist who actually understood the rational male mind.

"We have a special name for people who try to pick a fight with you on the road. They're assholes. Stay away from them. Do not engage them."

6. I'll bet he's at ATI in Clearwater-- they make a point of NOT being...
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 06:59 PM by mike_c
...a 12 step program. Frankly, they don't look like very effective rehab, but I've never been there so that's just me sayin'. They're psychologists and therapists however, so I doubt they have any connection to the church of scientology. Actually, reading their web site, they let patients take prescription meds, including psych meds while in treatment, so I'm pretty certain they aren't scientologists. Pretty cushy, too-- just the thing for a politician needing a place to hide. http://www.alternative2rehab.com/main.html

...that says "ADDICTS RECOVERING HERE!" A thousand people a day drive by the one my ex used, but I'll bet only one or two a week know it's a residential rehab center. It looks like a well worn vacation resort.

24. lol-- no, she went to a regular meeting, counseling, and working the steps
...kinda place. Two bunks per one-room cabin, with a tiny attached bathroom. Nice rustic paths, dining hall, and meeting/counseling rooms, however. Beautiful forested river frontage. Meals were pretty good. The usual drill-- no contact for the first week, then limited contact on Sunday only, public meetings on Sunday, lunch and a walk beside the river, then "thank you very much for visiting us...." She stayed three months-- 28 days + after-care. They were good folks, probably saved her life. I hope she's still OK.

20. According to foley's lawyer today, foley still has his computer
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 08:09 PM by Spazito
it has not been taken, foley has promised not to delete anything, etc.

Edited to add: According to his lawyer, there has been NO contact with law enforcement at all.

Here is more info on that:

Despite the fact that Foley's attorney has said Foley admits to sending the "totally inappropriate" e-mails and IMs, the FBI has still not seized his computer and hard drive.

"Mark has absolutely agreed on his own and with our counsel not to do anything with any computer, not to delete any messages, not to obliterate or attempt to obliterate any IMs, e-mails, Internet communications," said Roth.

The FBI confirmed today that it has not drawn up a search warrant for the equipment because the investigation is still preliminary, and they are still examining the messages they've obtained so far.

25. foley's office has been sealed off by the Capital Police as of Monday
so, it seems, the office and the computer were not protected until then. From the article the authorities have only been trying to contact former pages, examining the IMs. They have not gotten search warrants to examine anything.

(posted on DU, can't remember where) Foley's congressional office was closed up and is being investigated by the FBI.

So I imagine Foley's got his laptop but not his desktop.

...and no 12 step program. Foley would not have likely needed detox in any event-- I'm sure he could arrive sober-- AND with a 30 day script for something to calm his nerves, most likely. He's probably sitting by the pool right now....

18. I worked in several treatment centers, and NONE of them would
have allowed such a thing. The patients cannot make phone calls for the first week or so. Family only visits on weekends. No cell phones, computers, etc. The focus is supposed to be on facing one's addiction, and thus no one would be allowed to do that. However, I never worked at "country club" treatment centers, so who the hell knows.

Also, if, as Mr. Foley and his attorney claim, part of the reason for his actions with the pages is the his alcoholism, allowing him to get online again would be the absolute worst thing they could do. The treatment center would, in effect, be enabling this man to continue his reprehensible behavior.

FIND THE HOME ADDRESS OF ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LISTED AS STAFF AT ATI, FOLLOW THEM TO WORK AND PARK A CAMERA TRUCK THERE. But then that would be violating the perverts privacy, now wouldn't it?

mike_c deserves a lot of credit for the find. I live in the area and asked around, no one mentioned ATI and I had never heard of the place. If Foley is in Clearwater, dollars to doughnuts he's there.
