CNN's King and Crowley suggest Wetterling's Foley ad is opportunistic.
Patty Wetterling has a new ad excoriating Repukes for protecting their own and leaving kids exposed to predators. John King and Candace Crowley pounced on it as harsh and opportunistic. But did either of them stop for a single second to put Patty's views in context? Nope.

In the 1980s, she lost her son to an abductor--in all likelihood, a sexual predator. Maybe more than most, she has the right to condemn the Republicans for this. But let's not be bothered with details. :eyes:

1. They are carrying water for the Republicans...they don't
realize that the game is over and they should put on their tie-dye shirts and peace signs.

3. Of course, any democratic ad will be oportunistic
regardless of trivial things like context.

But republican ads will be "hard-hitting."

4. Foley was the opportunist..
Anyone who points that out is just telling the truth... Or are we supposed to feel pity for Foley because the "big bad Democrat" is talking about it?

15. so disgusting.
I am at a loss for words but will try to peck some.

so.... the ugly deed shown is just 'politics'.
we should all just assume everything is politics (and it is, at a basic level, ain't that sad)

forget the victims. it's all politics. it's okay.

5. An E-mail I just sent to CNN.
Dear Mr. Cafferty:

John King and Candy Crowley just showed a political ad for a Minnesota Democrat running for the US House, Patty Wetterling. Ms. Crowley instantly said that the Democrats with this ad had lost some moral standing, as they could no longer claim they aren't politicizing the Foley situation and were only concerned about the children.

Patty Wetterling's young son Jacob was assaulted, molested, and killed by a predator nearly 20 years ago. She has staunchly fought to protect other kids from predators ever since. She walks her talk.

Shame on Candy Crowley for implying that this is only a political ploy on Patty Wetterling's part.

Sincerely,

(mac56)

6. You got that right
I just saw it on Matthews and he said "quick to pounce" too, without a word about who Patty Wetterling is. Assholes.

7. I actually have mixed feelings about that
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 06:56 PM by qanda
I think the Democrats should continue to watch the GOP implode and not pounce on this like it's the only issue. If the issue is that she lost her own son to a sexual predator then she should put the ad in context because right now she may be viewed as a political opportunist.

On edit: trying to clarify my position.

On edit again: I just watched it again and Candy Crowley said that the message was extremely clear and a good political issue for Democrats but they should be careful because the minute you watch this the Democrats lose the "we're not politicizing this, it's all about the children" when you put up a political ad.

13. Minnesota knows Patty Wetterling's story but the whole country does not.
To single out her ad, on a national news show, without providing that context and for the sole purpose of making Democrats appear opportunistic was wrong. Patty Wetterling is anything but an opportunist. She's passionate to the core about protecting children from predators.

10. John and Candi also said unequivocally that
the Puke leaders had not covered for Foley. How do they know that? Looks to me like they did. I guess they're holding back what they know. Either that or they're liars.
