KERRY-Knock Out Punch Re: New Katrina Documents
John Kerry just released the following statement — a knock out punch, in my opinion — on the release of documents proving that the administration was fully and accurately briefed on the risks Hurricane Katrina posed to the Gulf Coast:

“How is it that the White House Situation Room received detailed warnings 48 hours before Hurricane Katrina hit, that the National Hurricane Center was warning CNN and the world that Katrina could be The Big One, that FEMA reported two days before landfall that Katrina’s surge ‘could greatly overtop levees and protective systems,’ destroy nearly 90 percent of city structures, require ‘incredible search and rescue needs (60,000-plus),’ and displace more than a million people – and the President days later still insisted on national television, ‘I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees’ that left 1,300 dead and thousands more homeless?

“Where’s the accountability? Where’s the compassion?

26. I'd like to see more than words
Any ONE of these numerous scandals would have been enough to impeach Bush on. Glad to see Kerry step up to the plate, but we need IMPEACHMENT, and we need it now.

And before anyone tries to remind me (a) that the Dems don't control either half of Congress or (b) that Impeachment starts in the House, I will say this: IMPEACHMENT starts with people TALKING about it and taking a lot of steps to generate public awareness and support -- and to make the support for impeachment among the public that already exists common knowledge. Further, when there's this much duplicity, incompetence, and outright malfeasance in any given administration, even Republicans can be MADE to act -- by the people, of course.

11. Don't forget the cake with McCain - where was his disgust
that the day AFTER NO was flooded that Bush was having a photo op with him. He should be ashamed too. Where was his outrage. Kerry was in Iraq and was having his office and his PAC sending emails to solicit help.

7. Good Question, Senator Kerry.
You tell us and we'll both know.

Wait, it left us when the balance of power tilted all the way to the right. Republicans equate to passion for war profits and BIG corporations.

"We the people..." We're nada anymore.

9. You know the real scandal?
Not that nothing was done with this info. It's that the WH lied about having it, for the sole purpose of forestalling any argument that they could have done better.

With Bush, after every boo-boo they scrub the files. Months later, or years later in the case of 9/11, we find out what they knew and when they knew it. Disgusting. If they put half as much energy in doing something.....

known??" And we find out later that SIX foreign government's intelligence agencies had notified them about eminent 9/11 attacks.

Somebody needs to make a political ad out of the two situations: One with him saying he didn't know about Katrina, then showing the e-mail. Another showing him saying we couldn't have expected 9/11, and then showing the PDB memo.

The two are very closely tied. They knew. They did NOTHING! Thousands of Americans died.

22. Whether folks dispute that or not, how does it help us now?
Woulda, shoulda, coulda.

We can't change the past, can we.

Nevertheless, he was kinda fun when he was pissed, actually. Right after the RNC Convention was one time. He was pretty spiffy at the first debate as well. But I remember reading in Newsweek (or somewhere... damn my memory) that Shrum and Cahill told an aide to "restrain the candidate" when Kerry was about to give a speech to the VFW and wanted to mention the swiftboat liars. He was quite pissed. But Cahill and Shrum were afraid he'd come off sounding bitter. Hence, "Restrain the candidate!"

No, DON'T restrain the candidate. The candidate is a wonder to behold when he's angry.

I don't think the media like to show it much though. Often they'd show you Bush, but only tell you about Kerry. Filtered through their perspective, it was just the same old thing to them. Jaded bastards.

25. I blame the media.
Katrina is one dozens of detailed, well-documented examples of the Bush administration's gross incompetence and corruption. Whether it's the Medicare corporate giveaway or their purposeful misleading to get us into Iraq, the news media, when confronted face-to-face with true corruption, has bowed its head. They're terrified of alienating the psychopathic mouthbreathers who voted for Bush, terrified of being called partisan, terrified of being labeled unpatriotic. So they pretend that the monstrous reign of crime that is the Bush administration is just business as usual.

The rest of the country, seeing that the news media isn't telling them Bush is a criminal, assumes he must not be. And so the crime spree continues...
