compared to this half-assed bunch of chicken-hawks in office now. Personally, I wouldn't wear the shirt. There's nothing funny about conservative stupidity.

I'm 18, so it's not like I have fond memories of Goldwater. I barely knew Bill Clinton. Barry Goldwater was an interesting political figure and I just thought it was a cool shirt.

He was a friend of mine and he wasn't an insane neocon. Yes, I know his (in)famous quote about
extremism but nevertheless he was 10000000 times a better person than this current bunch of fascist
assholes.

25. Why? They cut taxes for the rich, give handouts to corporations,
and piss all over the poor.

True Conservatism at its finest.

Goldwater would be proud.

32. "true conservatism" is a load of shit
handouts to the rich at the expense of everyone else.

The more money you have, the better and more valuable you are.

No need for regulation, the magical free market will solve everything.

We can trust CEOs to do the right thing, because they are rich and therefore better.

The best way to help people is by letting private enterprise take care of everything...

Need I go on?

34. Look, I respect you for many reasons but you're too young to recall
what 'conservatives' were 45 years ago, I think. They wanted the federal government to stay out of peoples' bedrooms, a balanced budget, non-intervention in other nations, smaller gov't and to a fair
extent "live and let live." NOTHING like what contemporary "conservatives" support.

Your last point has some validity but there was actually a time when private enterprise behaved in
a decent manner for the most part. In those days, their interests weren't inimical to those of
'regular' people...maybe a little bit but nothing like how it is now.

35. but we can't get caught up pining for true conservatives
because they still want something completely different from what liberals envision.

For example, conservatives were against Roosevelt because of his large government programs.

It sounds noble, but it can never honestly be put into practice.

40. You mean the "New Deal"? Millions of Americans are still benefitting
from that. I'll give you a little tip here, there never were very many 'conservatives' who
complained about the WPA or the PWA when those programs got them jobs. I can tell you from personal
experience that a -lot- of avarice toward FDR was directed his way because he was perceived by some
to be a (sorry to put it this way but it's a fact) a 'nigger lover'...a phrase often used by my own
father who was basically a Nazi racist and whose philosophy I actually embraced to my everlasting
shame up until I got into college and learned better.

41. well, true, when it gets them a job, they're ok
and as for the "Nigger lover" remark...

Don't worry about feeling that way up until you got in college...

Some people, even today, get to college and STILL feel that way...

Its fucking crazy...

I wouldn't give a NICKEL to a site that sold shirts that said things like this*:

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity." - Ann Coulter, September 13, 2001.

"99% of Democrats give the rest a bad name."
"I just neutered the cat. Now he's a liberal."
"Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some Assembly Required."

* taken from actual shirts on sale at this site.

37. I lived through Goldwater and the only thing I remember that he
accomplished were nice pictures of Indians and a mars station he mounted atop the hill on which he his home sat. He used to place overseas calls to GI's for Christmas for free. That's about it. Big woop. Maybe he got a few brownie points for that. Pretty much a waste of time in my repuke book.
