17. alito will have his big smile as he will be confirmed later this week |
|
they voted him in senate committee and it is expected he will be voted in by majority. not a single message of him being challenged or any issue with the man. just news flash of alito smiling huge and his wife behind with little giggles.
i dont watch news. hardly ever look at it so when i went into room with it on the channel i heard what all was talking about on this board about msm doing repug work. like it isnt night and day msm vs this board. and we wonder why the average american doesnt know shit
no controversy here. move along

2. that is a meaningless statement |

I prefer this story: http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Conservative_Democrat_balks_on_approving_Alito_0124.htmlOne of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) today announced he would vote no on Judge Samuel Alito Jr.’s confirmation to the Supreme Court -- raising the possiblity of a filibuster, RAW STORY has learned. Just one Democrat has said he'll vote to confirm Alito.

6. No, Liebermann has said a filibuster is still on the table. The only |
|
Dem to say they will vote for Alito is Nelson from Nebraska.

11. No it doesn't. Senate rules require a 2/3 vote to change Senate |
|
rules.
A filibuster, under senate rules, requires 41 votes to sustain a filibuster.
If the Republicans want to violate the rules of the Senate and claim a 2/3 vote is "unconstitutional," let them cheat to win. Let them try to change the rules in the middle of the debate.
This will only drive home to the Nation that Republicans are unethical cheaters who will go to any lenghts to get their way.
I say make them cheat to win, if they want to.

14. Sorry JQ, I was attempting to say that |
|
to ditch Alita in an "up or down" vote a majority is required. For a filibuster to succeed we only need 41 (or mis it 44?). For them to cheat they only need to cheat and ignore the rules.
Been a bit crazed lately.

15. We are all a bit frazzled. Senate rules require a 3/5 vote of the Senate |
|
(at least 60 votes)to invoke cloture, so 41 votes against cloture will support a filibuster.
