The Principals Worth Fighting For (Add your own)
Firstly, we should value elections and their democratic processes. However, while it is the right of any candidate to raise and spend money, their money should only come from private citizens who give anonymously and at a reasonable sum. Also, term limits on all of our officials are necessary to prevent permanent power brokering. By doing this, you increase the honesty of our elected officials by removing the forces of corruption.

Secondly, we must value education as a national right to all the citizens as a means of security. By having an educated and productive populace there is a two-fold benefit. First, by allowing more scholarly work we can continually increase the tools we have to protect the nation’s citizens in every area of life. Secondly, by educating everyone we create a more competitive market-place ultimately yielding more capital that can be used to aide the security of the nation.

Thirdly, we must provide adequate healthcare to every citizen in the nation for personal security. Healthcare should be a fundamental right every citizen in any nation that claims to be civilized enjoys. While premium healthcare options are the right of anybody who can afford them, no person should ever be subjected to healthcare that is necessary but unaffordable. Also, necessary medication should not be only a privilege the rich can enjoy, but a right given to all citizens. By doing this we allow for the citizenry to lead longer and healthier lives where potential can be actualized and productivity can be maximized.

1. My high school principal.
You meant 'principles,' Sorry, I couldn't help it. But those three would be among the top five. Return the free press and guarantee my right to privacy, and you're good.

4. I disagree with your term limits
Term limits does not prevent permanent power brokering. It just moves from one man to the next. Does anyone honestly believe that Tom DeLay's replacement (if he's a puke) will not have access to the Republican bag-man. It will just speed up the process whereby people go to Washington and attempt to get rich.
I think Universal Health Care is necessary. I live in a country with Universal Health Care and it rocks.
I think a well educated public is important.
I think subsidized public utilities. The government should subsidise power, gas, etc to prevent people from being shut-off at a whim. In Illinois, it is illegal to shut off power from Nov 1 to March 30. In Indiana, there is no such law.

6. as someone else recently posted . . .
the things worth fighting for -- which should be the core of the Democratic platform -- are:

- The Rule of Law
- The U.S. Constitution
- The Bill of Rights

to which I would add . . .

- Government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People

collectively, these four items encompass everything else -- and are essential to the survival of the American ideal and the United States as a nation . . .

9. We're down to the basics here:
Balance of powers as outlined in the Constitution.

Even BEFORE the Bill of Rights.

(It's a sad, sad day when the Bill of Rights is #2, but that day has come).
