Pelosi: Repub leadership needs to be put under oath immediately
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 11:04 PM by cynatnite
"Mr. Fordham's statement is even more evidence that Republican Leaders chose to put partisan politics above protecting the children in their trust.

"Conflicting stories between Republican leadership and Republican staff about their cover up of Mark Foley's abhorrent behavior underscore the urgency for the Republican leadership to be immediately questioned under oath by the Ethics Committee.

"Today's revelation begs the questions: Why did Speaker Hastert, Congressman Reynolds and other Republican Leaders continue to support Mark Foley after they knew about his horrific behavior? And why did Republican Leaders enlist Mark Foley's support in Republican efforts to stay in power?

"The children, their parents, the public, and our colleagues deserve answers and those who covered up Mark Foley's behavior must be held accountable."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20061004/pl_usnw/pelosi___republican_leaders_put_partisan_politics_above_protecting_the_children_in_their_trust168_xml

And here is a statement released from Hastert's office:

"What Kirk Fordham said did not happen."

But it would have been great to see a little more righteous indignation from her about a few other topics in the past...

8. Excellent! Will the leadership blow this off like every other
request for hearings by Democrats? Somehow, I doubt it.....what a great Hobson's choice. Ignore it and look like you are covering up the scandal further or accede to Ms. Pelosi's demand and allow this to drag on and perhaps expose further acts of Republican malfeasance. What's your poison fellas?

9. Oh I like the sound of this. Hmmm. John Sirica comes to mind.
Could this be the beginning of the end? Or are we already there.

Who knows. But it's sure getting exciting around here.

Can we please get things moving before these clowns attack another country!

11. The Clock Keeps Ticking
Last Friday night, Nancy put a resolution on the floor to have an investigation into this matter and have it reported back in 10 days (that's next Monday). To hijack the motion and emotions...Boehner quickly got the vote to be an ethics committee investigation and the resolution passed 410-0. So according to their own resolution, the Ethics committee is supposed to have a report on this scandal on Monday. I've got a bright shiny dime that says that's not gonna happen and gives Nancy a great chance to turn the screws on the "party of responsibility" if needed.

Democrats get into this Repugnican slime fight at their own peril...but not for the reasons Lanny Davis says. I say when your enemies are wasting all their energy beating each other silly, why waste yours? Sooner rather than later, they'll come up punch drunk and make yet more mistakes.

This scandal could not only take down Hastert but Reynolds and maybe Boehner as well. No matter, within a week, the House leadership will be decapitated (if it isn't already...and what a lame duck House session this is gonna be). Here's Nancy's chance to do two things to seal the deal.

First...be a leader. She showed that by rushing to the floor and pushing the resolution last Friday...not overplaying this so that the right wing media could try to frame this as being a partisan witch hunt. The silence of the Democrats other than expressing their indignation at the entire Repugnican party is all that's needed as the GOOP circular firing squad is now reloading.

Second...time to work on the local level...let the Repugnicans play out their mess in the national media...Democrats have a clear field on the local front to express their opinions and show how they're agents of change. I was impressed with Maloney who wouldn't let Tweety snare him into bashing Foley and instead stayed on message.

I've followed politics closely for most of my life...from the fall-out of Vietnam on the Democrats in 1966 to Watergate in '74 to Raygun's retreat in '86 and Poppy Bush's "read my lips" retreat defeat in '90. And, of course there's '94...when our worst nightmares began. Never have I seen something this close to an election that could determine so many close races as this scandal has.

Sit back and enjoy the show...I suspect we'll start seeing how real erosion in the polls in the by the weekend. The GOOP implosion has just begun as these corrupt slimeballs are now naked to the world in their greed for power. They have no defense and Democrats shoudn't hit them when they're down...kick 'em, it's easier.

13. We're using their own tactic on them: The shotgun approach.
And tonight Bill Moyers' on America is a devastating expose of the DeLay-Abramoff-Reed-Norquist et al filthy disgusting corruption.

14. They're Doing It To Themselves...
Democrats didn't hide or protect Foley...Repugnicans did. Gays can operate freely within the Democratic party. These "paragons of morality" got caught in their own tar baby as its blatant are now twisting on their own hypocrisy.

Democrats didn't create Abramoff...he didn't put money in Democratic pockets (sorry Timmy)...and I didn't see any Democratic names for tables at Signatures or in the emails for the skybox tix or at the Golf junkets or at Porter Goss' poker parties.

Democrats didn't lie into a war for profit that is ruining our military and destroying this country's national security. Or come up with a conveluted medicare scheme that has force millions of elderly to eithr forgo medications or cough up more money...or an economy that has been in an almost constant depression for the middle class since booosh took power.

This isn't our game, this is theirs...and the delicious irony is to watch them fight their own ghosts here.

28. What is wonderfully ironic is that they might have had a few corrupt
Dems to point to, since people are people after all, and some members of any group will allow themselves to be tempted into corrupt practices, except that the Republicans were so greedy that they couldn't bear to allow any Dems to play in their corrupt game. They refused to share any of the graft, and so the Dems, even the ones who might have been tempted, never got a taste of it.

Heh heh heh.

29. I wonder whether Grover Norquist's 'K St Project' ever considered this risk
--that greedily seeking to control all bribes from all influential lobbyists would expose all of them to one-sided condemnation and one-sided retribution some future Election Day.

That day of reckoning seems likely to be coming this November.

19. Waterboard Them: America Can't Take A Chance.
Who knows how many of these guys are, um, a little "light in their loafers" (if you catch my drift). Even as I write this, dozens of our federal representatives might be under blackmail by underage operatives of al Qaeda.

We can't take a chance. The stakes are just too great. America needs to know

We must utilize alternative interrogation techniques in our effort to smoke out this danger. These are important tools in our fight against those who hate us for our freedoms.

To see those whoring dogs be caught lying under oath. I am so tired of the affected smugness of these holier than thou, only Republicans have any morals, family-values/schamily-values, hide their true colors, elephants. Perjury here we come.
