Watch out tomorrow.
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 09:48 PM by jsamuel
I sent this out to friends/family:

Watch out tomorrow. I am uncertain if there will be a filibuster or not, but despite all of the media spin, it seems like it might happen. I will be very happy if Democrats in the Senate decide to stand for principles. The Republicans have threatened to use the “nuclear option” against the Democrats if they filibuster (effectively disallowing filibusters) but the legality of that is in question. This is a very risky move and I am writing and writing to try to get our senators behind a filibuster.

I am also encouraging the Democrats to walk out of the State of the Union address for the President’s illegal activity against us. That is much less likely, but I thought a filibuster of the Patriot Act, the Defense bill that stuck in drilling in the ANWR, and Alito was unlikely.

I feel that we are coming to a very important crossroads in our country. We either fight against the forces trying to lead us down a dark path or we let apathy and distractions make us weak until we have no more fight in us.

I understand not everyone likes Democrats or Republicans, but I am starting to feel like walking the line in-between doesn’t allow for people to help either one get better. If everyone of good heart left each party, then all that would be left in either party would be people like Bush.

1. I hope if it doesn't happen
there aren't too many broken hearts here on DU. Some folks are fragile.

3. Understand, there's no "legality" involved
This is a major rule change, not a legislative change.

6. I say, if they filibuster we all donate money.
It should be a certain amount we can all agree on so they know they are being rewarded.

8. We keep seeing pleas for DEMS to walk out of SOTU.
Doesn't the Secret Service lock down any room himself is working? Wouldn't Congressional DEMS look pretty silly all jammed up against a locked door?

Anybody know if it is even possible to leave the chamber when the SOB is in there?

11. On my local news they were pretty fair and I'm in a Repub. area.
If I knew nothing about him and heard their report AND I were a Rep/Dem/Indy moderate - I'd be thinking "oh-oh, they'd better not confirm that guy."

15. I'll pledge to donate $100.00 to the DSCC if they filibuster....
...whether successfully or not. How many on DU can do that? How many DU members are there?

16. People could donate within a set pattern
according to their ability.

If the fillibuster happens tomorrow, people could give 1.25, 12.50, or 125.00, etc ...

17. The DNC called me last week looking for a donation
I told the caller that I was tired of being disappointed by weak Dems (I mentioned the bankruptcy bill) and I told the caller that I wasn't giving any money until I saw what the Dems did on the Alito vote.

The caller told me she was hearing that from a lot of people.

Bottom line: BUSH NEEDS TO NOMINATE A MODERATE JUDGE, OR NO DEAL.

PERIOD!!!
