Wal-Mart Signs Rush Limbaugh
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 10:27 AM by itsrobert
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Brings Rush Limbaugh to it's Stores!
BENTONVILLE, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wal-Mart’s program to register it's employees to vote has been extended to educating them over their in-store music/public address system. The Wal-Mart Political Education Challenge, a private/public partnership between Wal-Mart and Excellence In Broadcasting, will help employees and customers familiarize themselves with the Democratic Process.

"We’ve been extremely pleased with the customer response to RUSH! And. Rush is truly tickled by the attention! Crowds were at Secaucus Wal-Mart ready to listen to the the big guy early this morning and the response to the loveable guy was overwhelming! After the official unveil and introduction conducted by a security guard, Rush received a rousing round of applause accompanied by delighted squeals from the kids!

The Wal-Mart Political Education Challenge debuted in July 2006 in Sacramento, Palm Springs, and Salt Lake City, and expanded across the entire state of California earlier this year. Due to its success, Wal-Mart has extended the program to 12 states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, the entire state of Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, and plans to further expand it across the country in the Fall of 2007.

“The Wal-Mart Political Education Challenge teaches employees and customers how to become responsible stewards of their republic by limiting Democrats and Big Government that can harm the United States,” said Nicole Anderson of Wal-Mart. “The program brings immediate political education benefits to our communities, educational benefits to our children, and financial benefits to our nation. We are excited to bring the program to new areas.”

How the Political Education Challenge works

Upon joining the program, Rush Limbaugh is downlinked to Wal-Mart Stores via satellite and played on a continuous 3 hour loops 24 hours a day. Wal-Mart will donate $5.00 cash monthly from each employee's paycheck to pay for the program.

5. By limiting Democrats?
Oh my - this is terribly overt. I mean I always knew whose side Walmart is on, but this is really awful.

6. AHHH, yet another reason NOT to enter a WM store!
I can't very well threaten them, because I never shop there anyway!

I'm actually surprised that WM is doing this. You and I both know Rush doesn't come cheap! This one sure must be inflating that old ad budget!!!!

A none-too-funny symptom of how damaged I am, that I could so easily believe this could actually happen. Rats.

13. Well you almost turned me against Wal-Mart.
I have been replying to Wal-Mart bashing that has been going on here at DU for some time, by saying that we need to be fair to the company. When I first read your thread that Rush LumpBalls was promoting their voter registration campaign, I was ready to concede that I had been wrong to defend Wal-Mart.

I was relieved to see that this was only a spoof such as found in the Onion. Now I will be able to continue shopping at Wal-Mart and saving lots of money! Really I applaud Wal-Mart for encouraging their employees to register and vote, just as long as they don't tell people how to vote.

17. You really need to see "The High Cost of Low Price"
Walmart really has few redeaming values as a corporation and is not worth defending.

18. Try to separate yourself from your consumer choices
While folks here at DU don't much care for Wal-Mart's predatory corporate practices, their shabby treatment of their employees, and their general disregard for the communities they pillage, we also recognize that for a lot of people, shopping at Wal-Mart isn't really a choice. We don't judge folks who shop at Wal-Mart, because there isn't a blanket statement one can make about every person who patronizes Wal-Mart; only that if fewer people shopped at Wal-Mart, perhaps they'd reform their bad corporate citizenship ways.

Please try to distinguish your identity as a person from the consumer choices you make or are forced to make. Really, your personhood is more than being a consumer, though there are a lot of loud, wealthy and dominant voices trying to persuade you otherwise.

19. I'm ashamed to admit it, but
for the last month I've been shopping at WM. I've been saving a minimum of $50 a week there, but I really feel guilty about it. Our electric and gas bills have gone up so much I had to save money somewhere. I hate the checkout lines in WM, though, because everyone seems to be using food stamps and tons of coupons.

Or relative of an employee? Or contractor?
