Freeh out as special investigator. Indication of GOP power drain |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 02:02 PM by Caution
The very fact that Pelosi could prevent this appointment as swiftly and decisively as she did is a very good indication of how desperate the GOP is over this thing.
On Edit: Hastert announced that ex-FBI head and partisan hack Freeh would head the special investigation. Nancy Pelosi said "hell no" and within 15 minutes Freeh was out. Before this scandal there is no way they would have allowed Pelosi to dictate terms.
She threatened to bring the House back to session which would have meant news footage of House Reps talking about this inside the Capitol which is the very last thing they want.
This has already badly damaged the Republicans and Pelosi just demonstrated that the investigation will happen on the Democratic terms.

2. Can you please explain your point a little more fully. |

What did Pelosi do to block Freeh, and why did she do it? This is the first I heard about there being a special investigation.

Within maybe 15 minutes, MSNBC was reporting that Freeh was out. Apparently, Pelosi said no way. On edit: Here's a DU thread about it http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2322774&mesg_id=2322774

Hastert called Pelosi re: Freeh to overhaul Page program, Pelosi said no, this needs investigation. I guess she let him know that giving the page system over to Freeh wasn't gonna get Hstert off the hook.
