The Blue Angels are screaming overhead.
It's Fleet Week here in SF and I am working at a warehouse that is in the direct flight of the Blue Angels as they prep for their airshow.

With each pass I am just about jumping out of my seat. As much as I used to like Fleet Week and the Angels, now I can only think about the people of Iraq and how it must sound to them to hear our jets and choppers and bombs going off around them. This is the new normal for them.

I'm heading out in a bit to the World Can't Wait event down at Justin Herman Plaza. Maybe that will make me feel a little better. :(

1. I felt that way a couple of months ago when the air show was here
and fighters were buzzing my neighborhood.

All I could think of was the horrible thought that it was a sign of bad things to come.

My neighbors all came out to watch and the talk turned to politics.

The GOP had better kiss my neighborhood goodbye.

5. I have become a bit paranoid...
about air traffic here. In the leadup to the invasion, there was an amazing increase in military aircraft traffic here in SF. I live right along the air corridor that carries helicopters and I was seeing groups of choppers heading south five or six times a day for a few weeks -- normally we might see one or two choppers once a month. I remember we were still holding protests in an attempt to stop the invasion. Those helicopters told the truth about what was going on.

2. These guys?

This is a picture taken from the ground at my farm, right in the path of them when there is an air show around.

I know what you mean, every time I hear something like this I think about the people we are bombing and it just makes me sick how that same sound means something entirely different to them.

13. My horses were rather
stunned the first few times they flew over. Caused a little stampede! It was noisy, kinda fun until I thought of the citizens of other countries that hear that preceding bombs.

We used to have this overhead a lot as we are close to the Air Base where they do a lot of touch and go practice.

6. Go to the (FREE) Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Show in GG Park this weekend
See Steve Earle, he will cheer you up. :)

I'll be the one in front (during Steve's set) with the camera and the big smile and the "Worst President Ever" shirt.

Best event of the year. Check my pics from last year.

8. I live near a Navy airbase
and hear that sound a BUNCH. If anyone should dare complain, there are half a dozen grizzled old guys who will look at you and say, "that's the sound of freedom, honey".

Wonder if it sounds like freedom to the Iraqis?
