Any excuse that will work at this point. Sounds a little like their reasons for war too.

6. Of course. That's why Foley resigned, took full blame...
and then outted himself as an alcoholic clergy-molestation survivor who's gay.

Of COURSE it was a prank!

about a half hour ago. They have had time to close ranks and the spin machine is fully ginned.

10. How does that change what Foley did?
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 02:04 PM by gatorboy
NBC has an entire show based on tricking sex offendors with false information.

Considering how shocked they acted with what Clinton had done, the way they keep trying to make Foley's behavior okay is unsettling.

They'll do anything, I mean ANYTHING to hold onto power.

Fasten your seat belts, bring your garlic and Crucifix.

Yes, this is nothing short of An Exorcism.

Let's kick these EVIL Republican Ghouls out of the Congress? :hi:

15. I still think the whole episode is the October Surprise
Not that Foley didn't do all the stuff he is accused of, but that the Republicans are trying to create a controlled scandal that will have minimal damage to the party for the election, and stop people from discussing the Military Commissions Act, Rice\Tenet 911, Iraq, and Iran. And I think they have succeeded.

I even wondered if the dirt of Foley wasn't being setup for being worse than it really was, so that the Republicans could then claim that the democrats are lying, etc. Happens all the time with other things. A damaging document is released, then another forged document is released, the forged document is debunked, and then people think "Oh, it's been debunked" and they don't realize that there were multiple documents, and no one does anything about the original, damaging document.

The Foley scandal has just unfolded too smoothly, with no admission from Foley, and silence from the media on how they got the converstaions.

I think it's a distration

I think it's a controlled scandal put out by Republicans
and -> http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2302660&mesg_id=2308374

Suspicious sequence of events and the media doesn't reveal how they got the evidence

Foley really did do all the stuff he is accused of.
Republicans have had dirt on him for awhile.
They are feeding the media the conversations to intentionally create a scandal.
The Republicans are going to "poison the well" with some converstaions that are not true (whether the fake discussuion are worse than real ones or not doesn't matter).
The media will mention that a particular conversation or some conversations have been shown to be untrue, or a prank, or something.
Joe American will hear that the conversations are untrue, and the damage to republicans will be minimal.
The Republicans do all this to keep people from discussing the issues to will affect the election.

That's how it is.

On edit: Look at the reaction of the freepers. They think they have won. They are starting to rally around the party. It doesn't matter what the truth is when dealing with public opinion. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1714403/posts. This is exactly what I was talking about.

16. Fordham asked Foley if the IM's were for real, Foley said "probably."
Which means that's exactly the sort of thing, and in quantity, Foley had been doing.
