Marijuana's key ingredient might fight Alzheimer's
http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/061005_alzheimers_marijuana.html

"The active ingredient of marijuana could be considerably better at suppressing the abnormal clumping of malformed proteins that is a hallmark of Alzheimer's than any currently approved drugs prescribed for the treatment of the disease.

Scientists report the finding in the Oct. 2 issue of the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics.

About 4.5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's disease, which gradually destroys memory. As more people survive into old age, cases of Alzheimer’s disease are expected to triple over the next 50 years. There is no known cure."

Any volunteers for field testing?

1. (Hand raised, waving frantically)
Curious that something that so screws with your short-term memory could be beneficial against Alzheimers.

4. Marijuana's effect on short-term memory is only present during use
It's not a side-effect that lingers after the intoxicating effects have ceased.

Extensive, long-term studies of chronic marijuana users do not show any difference in IQ or memory from non-users.

Garlic, marijuana, ginger, red wine, blueberries, chocolate, green tea... these are all tasty, of the Earth and good for you.

21. Purely on personal experience.
But of course, in my smoking days I was also drinking heavily which could conflate the results. I wonder is maybe I innoculated myself against Alzheimers - lost my dad to Alzheimer's, and it's kinda scary for me.

Wait, what was the question?

Seems I've heard of this before. But of course as we all know--because our government tells us so--MJ has no medical value and therefore no research will be done. On top of that good Christians like it when people suffer.

8. ME FIRST!
I think marijuana would be wonderful for a lot of shit. Back in the day when I smoked, my blood pressure was fine. My attitude was a lot better. And I let a lot of shit slide whereas now I'll leap right for the jugular. And I slept nights. Now I sleep, on a really good night, about 4 hours.

I was at the doctor a week and a half ago and it was 139 over 87. For me, that's great. For anyone else, not so good.

27. Hellz yeah! I have all of the prerequisites...lost my dad after suffering
through it for several years, and both paternal grandparents experienced symptoms of dementia in their final years. I think about it all of the time, and really don't want to put my loved ones through the process of watching me slowly slip away.

29. Those Silly Shits - Here Is How It Works
Of course weed counteracts the mental losses of age. Here's how it it works; you only get so much memory. Some people use it up slowly when they are young but lose the rest quickly when they get old. Some people burn weed from childhood, thereby burning up gobs of memory early on, making the transition to the eternally stoned state of senility a much easier slide.

Short story, burn more weed to even out the dementias process, don't save it all up for a fast dump at the finish.
