We shouldn't have military trials of people not in the US military.
Companies have an internal review process. So do police depts. And so does the US military, which is why they conduct trials of their own service members.

But the US military doesn't have the right to try people who aren't in the US military, though apprarently Bush thinks it does.

The US has civilian federal courts for people not in the US military.

How would you like it if you were visiting Columbia, and the Columnbian military said it was going to try you and execute you if it decided you're guilty?

US may use Guantanamo for military executions

1. Or worse, what if you LIVED in Colombia, and
an occupying army grabbed you and said it was going to try you and execute you if it decided you're guilty?

2. Either way, it isn't justice.
We have courts in the US who can try people accused of terrorism and related charges, as with "the shoe bomber."

3. My point was, Iraqi civilians, newly named "enemy combatants"
can be tried in military courts by us. :(

6. I don't want anyone who isn't in the miltary tried by the military.
If soldiers witness war crimes by merceneries, they should be able to testify about it our civilian courts.

8. I consider the military courts at Gitmo to already be illegal,
since they aren't authorized by Congress.

A law from Congress banning them may be needed, though.

9. I think so. Like John McCain's amendment reiterating that we shouldn't
torture that Bush will ignore.

10. There should be a bill with specific criminal penalties for conducting
a US military trial of someone not in the US military.
