Expect no debate on critical issues prior to the election (MSNBC)
Forward to the Future

Don’t expect to hear any meaningful debate before the midterms. But some Republicans are getting ready for a postpoll challenge to the White House on Iraq.

Sept. 29, 2006 - After November, there will be no more lapdogs when it comes to Iraq. The leaked National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) paints a bleak picture of Bush administration policies to combat terrorism, and it is the opening shot in what will become a campaign from within the Republican Party to extricate the country from the mess in Iraq.

Republicans who survive the voters’ anger and return to Washington will be looking at the waning days of a lame duck president and a Congress they either barely control or that has fallen into the hands of the opposition. “After the election, there will be a lot more candid observations about Iraq,” says Republican Arlen Specter, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Specter appeared to be warming to the task in a Q&A session at the National Press Club on Monday. Asked about the NIE, he said it is “very, very, very serious,” that it is “intuitive” that a Western nation invading and occupying an oil-rich Muslim country would “exacerbate Islamic radicalism.” What troubles him the most, he said, is that the same conclusion was reached in a National Intelligence report completed in early 2003 before the war started. In his view, Iraq is “disintegrating.” And contrary to what the administration says, “It seems to me we’re already in a civil war.”

1. Another smoke screen...
Matches the "High Stock Market" and "Low Low Gasoline Price" scams.

The key phrase is... 'some Republicans'

Yeah and 'some people' have bridges to sell. :eyes:

2. Oh, I don't believe it either ...
My intention in posting the article was that the critical issues will not be discussed prior to the election, namely the NIE, warrantless wiretapping, State of Denial, Iraq war, and the Torture Bill.

We'll focus on Foley and ignore the herd of elephants in the room.
