A Tribute to a Great Teacher and Peace Activist. |
|
I want to tell you about a remarkable woman for whom ChicaAzul and I have a boundless respect. I cannot use her name or say anything too specific about her because she doesn't know (yet!) that I'm writing this and, even though we live in one of the bluest of blue states, we still have our nuts up here.
For the past 2+ years, as long as we've lived in our community. We have been seeing one of our son's former teachers with her husband and some friends, 1 night every week like clockwork, near one of the busiest intersections in our town, taking a stand against the criminal war that our "glorious leader" and his malignant cronies lied our nation into.
She and they are there in the deepest Winter, the hottest Summer, rain or shine, light or dark because she speaks for JUSTICE. she speaks for the thousands of America's sons and daughters and tens of thousands of Iraquis who have forever lost the ability to speak for themselves because this administration didn't treasure the lives of those who voluntarily placed themselves in harm's way in no small paart because of their love of country and the IDEA of America. She stands for those whose bodies have been mangled and can't stand for themselves. She is there when 60+% of this country agree with her. She was there when 60+% of this country (but never my wife or I) disagreed with her. ChicaAzul and I have often thought of bringing our son and joining them. Somehow though, we feel that we would be intruding.
We all have our way of furthering our beliefs. For myself, I LOVE watching the smirk disappear when a right winger is stupid enough to engage ME. ChicaAzul is evn better at that than I am. And the staff at dunkin' donuts CRINGES when we walk in while they have faux news on the TV.
This woman stands silent witness to the evil that is being continuously perpetrated by a criminal administration and stupidly promulgated by a cowardly and lazy "news" media.
She has more courage than anyone We've met since coming to our new home more than 4 years ago.
Once again, I can't say her name or tell you anything specific about her. But you should know she's there.
PEACE!
