I Predict: Rs Have Conceded Election, Will Challenge Results In Court |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 12:55 PM by stopbush
The Rs announced that they would spend $40MM this election in negative ads aimed at the "dirt" they had on Dems. That might have worked pre-Foley, but the worm has now turned and their chances are non existent to hold the House. They are close to losing the Senate. $100MM in negative ads wouldn't work at this point.
This is too much of an uphill battle for them to fight and win in 4 weeks. So their only real chance is to challenge the vote itself after the election. They will blame it on e-voting, stating that the Ds have been in the forefront on criticizing e-voting as unreliable. They will also say that post-Foley, Americans deserve to know that their Congress critters were elected fairly and without prejudice or machine malfunction. They will frame the issue as their "protecting the voting rights of all Americans, no matter what their political stripe."
They have the money to pay for challenges and recounts across the country, but they will concentrate on the closest races. They will need to turn only 1-3 Senate races and maybe 10 House races to their favor to keep control of Congress.
Ultimately, they can keep control of both houses simply by keeping the elections up in the air and uncertified through the day that Congress reconvenes in 2007...at which point, Denny Hastert can seat anyone he wants in the House (citing his recent actions in the House as precedent) and declare that the House recognizes them as the legitimate winner. He may even seat a few Ds to make it look bipartisan while, of course, keeping an R majority in the House.
Rs have a very good record on "winning" elections in the courts (or otherwise) and they have no morals, so it's a road that they are more than willing to travel.
Paranoid, yes, but why shouldn't I be?

3. Yes. Why has Lou Dobbs (CNN-Wolf in Sheep's Clothing) been |
|
hammering e-voting for the better part of 4 months?
The Rs have laid a groundwork that they believe can handle events as traumatic as Foleygate.

2. It is NEVER paranoid to voice your distrust when it comes to BushInc. |
|
Because they always find some new level of deceit - and they still do control most media.
I predict they will SET UP some Democrats with the electronic machines and make the code TRACEABLE to someone in the Dem party.

5. entirely possible -- but it won't work as well, this time |
|
They had the element of surprise when the Supreme "Court" appointed Bush -- such blatant election thieving had rarely been done in broad daylight.
And while it's not to say they won't try it, I'd like to think that even the Dems will be savvy enough to raise holy hell.
Plus, this could backfire if previous "elections" become part of the evidence trail in such cases...

6. Plus, Americans have now accepted contested elections as the norm. |
|
This won't happen in a bubble. The Rs will make an issue of it this time because it's their ox being gored (no pun intended).

7. I expect an increase in dirty tricks. |
|
Flyers giving false info on polling stations, saying Ds are to vote on the day after election day, if you or anyone in your family has ever been arrested you can't vote or you go to jail for 10 years, etc. All stops are being pulled.

8. If 2004 in Ohio is any indication... |
|
They will use every trick in the book. You can count on it.
Voter Suppression Voter Intimidation Vote Fraud Ballot Fraud Ballot Manipulation
They'll lose ballots... Misdirect ballots... Cage voters... Contest voters... Create some sort of 'poll tax' disguised as a so-called 'Voter ID Card'.
Steal what they can with electronic machines. Steal what they can with mechanical machines.
Why do you think they were so reluctant to renew the Right-to-Vote Act awhile back?

9. You are not paranoid if they are out to get you |
|
guess what, they are out to get you, and me and everybody else
My prediction is... don't count them chickens, or scrambled eggs... I predict nothing will change. This does not not meant I won't vote or work for change... but as stalin said, it does not matter who voets but who counts the vote
