My Brother-In-Law's Grandfather died last night during a home invasion.
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 07:24 PM by LostInAnomie
He was the hardest core, most firebrand Democrat I had ever met in my life. In a family of dyed in the wool Republicans he was the lone Democrat and he let everyone know it. He was a huge union supporter, pro-social programs, and hated Bush* with a passion. It's horrible that he had to go in such a violent way.

According to his wife's version of events, last night, while He and his wife were eating dinner a home invader kicked in their back door. At gun point they were forced into the back bedroom of the house and told to hand over all of their valuables. After his wife handed over her purse and watch she was violently thrown to the bed. My BIL's Grandfather (who was without his oxygen mask) begged the man to not hurt either of them offering him whatever he wanted. The home invader then pistol whipped my BIL's Grandfather causing him to fall into a dresser which gashed his arm. After seeing that the social security dependant couple had noting left of value to take, the invader fled the house. By the time his wife could get to the phone to call 9/11 my BIL's Grandfather had suffered a heart attack and passed away.

The home invader was arrested about 12 hours later and charged with 2nd degree murder. The police guess that his original plan was to kill both of them, since he didn't wear a mask or even attempt to hide his identity even though he lived in the same neighborhood. It is not known if he was on drugs, or had mental problems of any kind. Hopefully, he wasn't or doesn't so he doesn't have any mitigating circumstances when he goes to trial.

I just don't get how a human being could do that to an old couple that never did him any harm. Something's not right in the world.

9. In my mind, this behavior is increasingly encouraged by the
shrill and violent tones of con-servatives. If you think about it, people are hit day after day with tantrums encouraging violence, war, survival of the fittest - all coming from the standard con-servative tantrum throwers. Now that doesn't mean this assault was from a con-servative, but they are a completely heartless bunch.

I am so very sorry for your BIL's grandfather. No one should suffer that way, and second-degree murder isn't enough - there had better be a slew of accompanying charges. As awful as it seems, the only thing the BIL's family can now do is ensure this creep is never let out onto the streets again. Ever.

Something's not right in this country for sure. When you have the president and his hench men above the law, some of the other people gets to thinking its ok for them to be that way too.

if I may, God bless you and your family. May justice been done your BIL's Grandfather, comfort his wife, console the rest of the family and overtime, may the passage of time soften and fade the horrific memories of this savage attack on such a lovely couple and leave in their place, the respect and honour that that dear man established as a legacy for generations. God bless all of you. I can honestly and truly say I COMPLETELY understand what it feels like to lose an elder in this manner.

21. Please accept my sincere condolences
I feel very sad for the fact that his last moments on earth were so stressful. Please give all the comfort and support you can to his widow, who was so shockingly traumatized in a home she may never again feel safe in. I agree that something has gone terribly wrong in our society when our elders and our children have increasingly become easy targets of evil people.
