CREW Releases Ethics Complaint Against Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has prepared an ethics complaint against Acting House Majority Leader Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). CREW is releasing the complaint in the hopes of finding a Member of the House of Representatives willing to forward the complaint to the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct for consideration.

CREW is not filing the complaint directly with the Committee because only Members of the House can do so. Any Member of the House can, however, certify that CREW's complaint has a good faith basis and forward the complaint to the Ethics Committee, stating that the complaint merits the Committee's consideration.

CREW's ethics complaint against Rep. Blunt alleges that he violated numerous House ethics rules by providing legislative assistance that benefitted his family members and resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions to his political committees.

"If rooting out corruption in the House of Representatives is truly a priority for both parties, then we ask a member, any member, to put their money where their mouth is and file this complaint against Acting House Majority Leader Roy Blunt," Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. "We urge members to end the ethics 'truce' and cease abdicating their responsibility to police the conduct of their colleagues."

1. The last that I heard, Blunt's office has refused to return to Abramoff
the moneys the lobbyist game Blunt and his family. I can't give a link to this here and now but I live in Missouri and know from the news outlets there that Blunt said that there was nothing illegal in accepting Abramoff's contributions and therefore his office would return nothing.

It is known also that Blunt's son, who was elected Governor of Missouri, received money for his campaign from Abramoff via his father Roy. The son's campaign is not returning any Abramoff funds either.

Because the Blunt son has nearly killed the entire state Medicaid system, and also by taking other measures against the poor and disabled, the son has taken it upon himself to completely security wire the Governor's Mansion as if it were a compound with the hiring of numerous other guards and associated expenses. The story in Missouri is not finished, but will go nowhere since most elected offices in that state are held by fiercely damagogue GOPers who cheer every move by the Governor to cut programs to the poor while ensuring tax breaks for Missouri corporations and wealthy taxpayers who receive many favors.
