Rep. Chris Cannon says it's the parents' fault...
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 07:50 PM by cynatnite
WASHINGTON - Rep. Chris Cannon today attempted to clarify public comments he made last night seeming to blame teen-age congressional pages in the unfolding scandal with disgraced ex-Rep. Mark Foley.

"These kids are actually precocious kids," Cannon, R-Utah, told KSL Radio's Nightside. "It looks like uh, maybe this one email is a prank where you had a bunch of kids sitting egging this guy on."

Cannon, who has defended House Speaker Dennis Hastert's handling of the scandal, also said Thursday that there's not much to do other than educate kids to the dangers of going online.

"Frankly, this is the responsibility of the parents," Cannon said. "If you get online you may find people who are creepy. There are creepy people out there who will do and say creepy things. Avoid them. That's what you have to do. And maybe we can say that a little more to the pages."

1. Thank you Rep Cannon
First, for admitting that Foley is creepy
Second, for proving that you're creepy too.

4. Isn't it wonderful?
Watching these "moral watchdogs" trying to defend Foley's, Hastert's, Reynolds' etc. etc. etc. actions is heartwarming. It just warms my soul to see these cretins self-destruct. :)

2. Yeah, I'd use the word "creepy" to describe Foley.
Good description of him, Chris.

3. So let's review, shall we?
It's the Democratic Party's fault.
No ... it's the media's fault
No ... it's George Soros' fault.
No ... it's the teen's fault.
No ... it's the parents' fault.

Why is it that Republicans are never to blame for ANYTHING they say, do or cover-up? :eyes:

6. And what if the creepy person happens to be a member of your party, is in
charge of the Missing Childrens Caucus, and the Republican leadership knew about his creepy behavior for at least 3 years? This is my take from Cannon's response: "Don't vote Republican, we're just plain creepy."

7. It's mildly amusing listening to them jam one foot into their
pie holes, but when they try to put both in at the same time, that's entertainment.

9. How does he think that helps them?
How in the world does he think that dismissing it as a group of kids "egging him on" helps him or his party? Did they force Foley to say the things he did? No, they didn't.

I am not buying this at all. I think they will have trouble selling it too.

I knew that congressional representatives operated in a bubble, unaware of the mood outside Washington, but to blame the parents under these circumstances? So uh ... a sexual Predator... a Republican... sends disgusting instant messages to underage minors. Your party, the Republicans, blames the pages parents? Wow.

Just wow.

19. Yes. That will play so well with the soccer moms.
And they still haven't picked up the clue phone. "It's not the crime; it's the coverup," Richard Nixon.

Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 11:02 PM by TorchTheWitch
Good job, dude!

A) admit Foley is one of those creepy guys parents try all their lives to keep away from their kids

B) blame it on first the victims, and

C) second, the parents of the victims

He may as well just resign and go play golf the rest of his life right now (if his own wife and kids don't beat the hell out of him themselves first).

He can backpeddle on those remarks all the way back into the 15th century, but it's not going to save him... he's done.
