Bush Concedes Iraq Failure
by Welshman
Fri Oct 06, 2006

............

Andrew North was categorical in his statement: Bush and his administration now accept that the policies for Iraq have failed.

From this realisation will come a set of new initiatives from the White House. Before giving North's forecast of what is now going to transpire, let me begin in the way that the news segment was introduced. It is that Bush concedes that the Iraq policies have failed and that there is no solution to be found in the poorly pursued strategies that involve Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki and the Iraqi government, who themselves are part of the problem.

..................

Iraq is a mess and Bush knows it, says North. Denial has ended.

Not surprisingly, he says that nothing will unfold until after Congressional elections in November. Until then, there will be no change in the stance of the White House. Not least, Bush is devoid of ideas as to what to do, as is the rest of his administration.

4.  The two faces of Iraq
........................................

Since September 26, Iraqis - as elsewhere in the Muslim world - have been celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, and Maliki has ordered a halt to house-to-house searches during the period to avoid arousing religious emotions against the government.

He has also given strict orders that Iraqi troops do not enter Sadr City in Baghdad, where Muqtada is based. Theirs is a marriage of convenience based on religious affiliations and common vision. Muqtada promises to steer clear of anti-government activity, while Maliki pledges to refrain from harassing, arresting or disarming Muqtada's militia.

The two men are united on not wanting an independent Shi'ite state in southern Iraq, although both of them are Shi'ites, and refusing Iranian influence in Iraqi affairs. The fact that Maliki is able to walk the tightrope, with the US on one side and their deadly enemy Muqtada on the other, is in fact remarkable. His friendship with Muqtada has nullified the Mehdi Army's attacks on US troops - and vice versa - and also given great credibility to the government because Muqtada has ministers in the Maliki cabinet and seats in parliament.

To think that the US supports a prime minister who dabbles with militiamen, wants to establish a theocracy and is unable to bring security to Iraq is indeed baffling. This is the Iraq that Rice visited on October 5, 2006.

6. Here's the plan: "Stay the course" Until the Democratic Party gets off its
ass and finally Demands that we get out of there.

At which point, they can blame the entire clusterfuck on "Liberals back home not supporting the troops and the mission, not giving our boys what they needed to win", just like they did with Vietnam.

That's the plan.

.... for political purposes.

Just today the White House said Sen. John Warner (R VA) was wrong
with his gloomy forecast for Iraq.

From now until the election we must "shout it from the roof tops,"
the REPUBLICAN / BUSH / PNAC IRAQI WAR HAS FAILED & THEY LIED US
INTO IT.

10. He'll bring in James Baker. The chatter for this has already
begun. Baker will enter the picture as W's new "counselor" and tell him that a military discipline will not work to secure Iraq, and a political response is necessary. Baker will save Dumbya.

13. Advice to military folks
You've been sold down the river. You have volunteered to serve a lie and a fiction. You and your buddies are dying for no good reason. You're not just in a difficult situation, you're in an impossible situation. This is like squaring the circle; it's insoluble. There is no way you can salvage this.

You volunteered for any of a hundred reasons. Whether it was to gain skills, earn money for college, defend America, or what have you. You signed on the line and volunteered for the military. The only thing you were owed was that your trust would not be abused. You were not supposed to be deployed except for the most serious reasons and situation.

But instead you were sent out on a fool's errand. You were sent out to bolster the public perception of a cabal of criminals, incompetents, and greedheads. And now it's fallen apart completely. You don't owe this administration anything anymore. You owe it to yourself to get out of this irretrievable situation. You've been trained not to mutiny or desert, but at this point? Honor, integrity and duty, if those words have any meaning at all anymore, might demand that you consider it. Is this what you joined up for? Is this the cause you thought you should be fighting for, to avoid political embarrassment for the 21st century embodiment of The Peter Principle?
