SMOKING GUN e-MAILS PROVE ABRAMOFF BRIBED RALSTON, ROVE, WH!!
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 10:00 AM by Dems Will Win

President Bush and Susan Ralston of the Abramoff Gang

After that game, Mr. Abramoff described Mr. Rove in an e-mail message to a colleague: “He’s a great guy. Told me anytime we need something just let him know through Susan.” The message was referring to Susan Ralston, Mr. Abramoff’s former secretary, who joined the White House in February 2001 as Mr. Rove’s executive assistant.

Ms. Ralston, who did not return phone calls seeking comment Thursday, was lobbied scores of times by Mr. Abramoff and his partners, the report found, and was instrumental in passing messages between Mr. Abramoff and senior officials at the White House, including Mr. Rove and Ken Mehlman.

Mr. Mehlman, now chairman of the Republican National Committee, was then a senior White House political strategist. A national committee spokeswoman, Tracey Schmitt, said Thursday that in Mr. Mehlman’s White House job, “it was not unusual” that he “would be in contact with supporters who had interest in administration policy.”

In October 2001, the report said, Mr. Abramoff asked the White House to withhold an endorsement from a Republican candidate for governor of the Northern Marianas Islands, an American commonwealth in the western Pacific where Mr. Abramoff had clients; Mr. Abramoff was backing another candidate.

On Oct. 31, 2001, the report said, Ms. Ralson sent an e-mail message to Mr. Abramoff that read: “You win KR said no endorsement.”

In March 2002, the report said, Mr. Abramoff contacted Ms. Ralson to offer tickets to Mr. Rove and his family for use of a skybox during the N.C.A.A. tournament at the MCI Center in Washington.

“Hi Susan,” Mr. Abramoff wrote in an e-mail message.” I just saw Karl and mentioned the N.C.A.A. opportunity, which he was really jazzed about. If he wants to join us in the Pollin box, please let me know as soon as you can.”

Ms. Ralston replied: “Karl is interested in Fri. and Sun. 3 tickets for his family?”

Mr. Abramoff responded: “Done. Does he want to go Friday night or Friday afternoon or both?” The report said that Mr. Rove offered to pay for the tickets, prompting Mr. Abramoff to propose that Mr. Rove pay $50 per ticket “payable to me personally.”

The report cited numerous e-mail messages in which Mr. Abramoff referred to Mr. Rove and his visits to Signatures, a Washington restaurant owned by Mr. Abramoff.

On learning in July 2002 that Mr. Rove planned to dine at Signatures with a party of 8 to 10 people, Mr. Abramoff wrote to a colleague: “I want him to be given a very nice bottle of wine and have Joseph whisper in his ear (only he should hear) that Abramoff wanted him to have this wine on the house.” In another e-mail message, Mr. Abramoff directed his restaurant staff to “please put Karl Rove in his usual table.”

3. That's just the WH internal investigation
which would have been a total waste of time anyway.

I believe these memos are from the ongoing Abramoff investigation which Abramoff has been cooperating with, in order to stay out of jail. Last I heard the judge had enough and Abramoff's time was up.

Unless and until this touches on the outing of Valerie Plame, Fitz has no professional interest in the matter.

43. It would take Fitz at least 3 more years to figure it out
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 09:09 AM by exlrrp
No, Fitz has all he can handle convicting the 2d rank figure it took him 2+ years of investigation to indict for a minor crime that Bush is sure to pardon for. Give this to him and he'd be guaranteed to stretch out any results after the 2008 election. Thats why the Republicans picked him in the first place--he's very slow, secretive and methodical with all the emphasis on the secretive and slow. As far as I can tell, Fitzgerald has done our side absolutely no good whatsoever and has not hurt the Republicans one bit, Scooter Libby excepted.
"Our" man Fitz indeed! Thats a good one

17. I agree. Many voters think all politicians are basically crooked
to a certain extent and that goes with the job. Their heads don't really start to pop up like prairie dogs until they hear the words "sexual scandal"...and prostitution rings and abortions out of the country rate about a .01 on the meter. It has to be IN D.C. and preferably IN THE WH or ON THE HILL.

"Paying" for those tickets was a token gesture.

Skybox seats cost a small fortune in real life.

27. That's why Abramhoff made it $50.00.
He wanted the record to look like it was under the gift limit. Congress allows up to $50 for "personal gifts."

Of course it was more.

What's worse is how profoundly they've violated the spirit of this country.

Sex slaves, sweatshops, Congressional junkets, corruption, squalor...

Disgraceful behavior makes me sick to my stomach. Where's the investigations into this stuff? Abromoff should be the prosecution's star witness. Sing for your freedom, boy!! Get some time off for squealing like a piggie on these bastards.

Anyone see Moyers Thursday night? Man. if we indicted the guilty as we should be we'd work our way down to through Bush, Cheney, Hastert, Bohner, and down through the GOP ranks until we ended up in the janitor's closet! Not a one of them is clean.

12. I don't want to throw cold water on this story, but I have a few questions
Does the statement: "Karl offered to pay for the tickets" get him off the hook?

Is it really illegal or seen as manipulation to ask a President or any other exec. NOT to support a particular candidate, especially one of their own party?

I just don'pt see this as a smoking gun.

14. Accepting anything over $50 and not reporting it is a bribe
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 10:02 AM by Dems Will Win
if you can prove there was something given in return. In this case Abramoff actually said in an e-mail that Ralston said Rove would do anything for him and there are witnesses Rove accepted that expensive bottle of wine and the waiter knows it came from Jack and that that is in the e-mails. Rove is toast, since we have proof Rove did plenty for him on the Marianas Islands and the Indian Tribes, and the perpetrator himself and soon Ralston will turn state's evidence on the higher-ups (including Hastert), who was also bribed on both crooked deals--and you have one hell of a case. Because Rove did not report that bottle of wine he will go to jail for a long time.

Ralston will sing like a fucking canary now. Rove and Bush and Cheney (Abramoff met extensively with his office as well on these matters) are all culpable.

Read all the e-mails yourself and then tell me there is no smoking gun in here.

Thanks for asking!

15. I work for a large company and use to have Federal accounts
whenever we had an event that included any kind of small give aways of even lunch we had to post signs for the government employees and I'm not kidding you the smallest things would sometimes be an issue - so I don't think Karl's offer to pay for the tickets gets him off the hook - the fact that they believe they are COMPLETELY above the law does though I guess.

16. They left out the smiley face
Al Franken has been talking about this story for at least a week. He likes to point out that Ralston's "You win" e-mail contains a smiley emoticon. The candidate that Abramoff was against was a threat to the continued forced labor of women and the forced abortions they are required to endure if the workers get pregnant. As Al points out, Ralston was in essence saying, "You get your way. Forced labor and forced abortions will continue. Yay! :)" All this from the pro-life hypocrites.

Franken has been reporting constantly on the Marianas Island outrages - since last year, as I recall. I can't believe that the Democrats aren't attacking with the sickening revelations that have come out. More GOPers were involved than just DeLay.

Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 12:44 PM by MagickMuffin
EDIT to include that these are the people Casino Jack got placed within the White House/Government.

Pictured left to right: Patrick Pizella (Policy Coordinator for the Bush-Cheney General Services Administration Transition Team. From January 22, 2001 to March 25, 2001, Pizzella served as the Chief of Staff to the Director at the U. S. Office of Personnel Management. Pizzella was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) - a position he held from January 18, 2004 to April 26, 2005)

Susan Bonzon Ralston, (Special Assistant to the President & Assistant to the Senior Advisor Karl Rove, was Jack Abramoff's executive assistant at Preston Gates and Ellis and later at the Greenberg Traurig law and lobbying firm, where "she served as the assistant director of governmental affairs)

David Hossein Safavian (was nominated by President George W. Bush as Administrator, Office of Federal Procurement Policy, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on January 22, 2004. He resigned Friday, September 16, 2005. Robert A. Burton, OFPP’s associate administrator, took over "managing the office")

Casino Jack Abramoff (former Republican "superlobbyist" and now a convicted and sentenced felon cooperating with federal prosecutors, is the central figure in a web of corruption within the U.S. Republican Party, which will likely be the most far-reaching Washington corruption scandal of recent decades)

At the top of the pryamid none other than Herr Karl Turd Blossom Rove (Republican political strategist best known as President George W. Bush's top advisor. He was appointed as Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the President by Bush during his first term.
On April 19, 2006, Rove "gave up his responsibilities as chief policy coordinator, a position he assumed" in February 2005 "that strengthened his influence over matters ranging from homeland security and domestic policy to the economy and national security,"
