On habeas corpus (and Freep this poll!)
Today's Wall Street Journal has a gret op-ed by Richard Epstein: "Produce the Body - Habeas corpus applies, even in Guantanamo". He rips apart the BushCo backed "Military Commissions Act of 2006", which allows the US to keep perfectly innocent people locked up indefinitely, without hearings, without lawyers, because some jerk thinks they're Osama's cousins.

For an update on this rape of the Bill of Rights, here's a Christian Science Monitor article:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/1006/p01s03-uspo.html

Now for the fun "Freep" the poll part! The very same Wall Street Journal "Opinion Journal" page that won't let anyone but subscribers read the Epstein article has a poll where ANYONE can vote!

Will Iraq descend into civil war in the next year?

Scroll down. I's on the right. On your mark... get set..... GO!!!

2. I voted, but this is one of those polls
where the choices don't really reflect everyone's opinions. There was no choice for "It is already in Civil War".

If you vote "yes" you are, in effect saying it isn't there now, and. of course, "no" will not be read with the possibility that it can't descend into civil war if it is already there, but as an agreement with the current non-policy in place. ....

5. True, it's a meaningless poll
I just thought it'd be nice if we yanked a few chains! :)

3. Yes 30.4% and No 69.6% for Iraq Civil War
Will Iraq descend into civil war in the next year?

Yes 30.4%
No 69.6%
Total votes: 13981.

No doubt denying the current state of civil war in Iraw will make it better and possibly make it go away. The equivalent of putting their hands over the ears and making lalalalalalalla noises. The idiots.

4. For all intents and purposes,
Iraq is already in a civil war. No descending left to be done.
