Al Franken and a surreal political world last night.
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 10:01 AM by KyndCulture
I went to a dem fundraiser last night. Al Franken was the keynote speaker. The foley scandal jokes were great, really funny, but he let me down a couple times with cheap gay jokes... I was irked at that... but for the most part he was really funny. New jokes, not the ones from his book.

Al said he's heading to Iraq and Afghanistan next month, that's great. He gave a little preview of his jokes for the troops and that's where I got a little miffed at the gay jokes.

But the highlight of the entire evening.. intended or NOT, was my congressman, Collin Peterson, Mr. Torture is ok by me, and his 50's music band played the one song that was not real appropriate...I really hope this was on purpose... I thought I was in surreal land. The 4 of us just got really big eyes and looked at each other... as did most of the audience... there were 500-600 dems in this theater. What an incredibly uncomfortable few minutes! I swear Rep. Peterson had no idea how screwed up playing and singing this song was.

HAVE YOU NO SHAME Mr. Peterson?

You come on like a dream, peaches and cream
Lips like strawberry wine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine

You're all ribbons and curls, ooh, what a girl
Eyes that sparkle and shine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine

You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop

You walked out of my dreams and into my arms
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine

You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop

You walked out of my dreams, and into my car
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine
You're sixteen, so beautiful, and you're mine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine
All mine, all mine, all mine
All mine, all mine, all mine

3. I know.
We didn't think the band would actually play the whole song.. it was so surreal. We thought a few notes of that song, ok it's a joke...

But holy hell, it wasn't a joke!!!
