Bush approval 33%
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 10:24 AM by habitual
Meanwhile, the president’s approval rating has fallen to a new all-time low for the Newsweek poll: 33 percent, down from an already anemic 36 percent in August.

So now he is lower than he was before his sept 11 opportunism.

A joint press confrence with the Speaker where you start yelling about the pages are sluts should do it.

35. 26% is about where Nixon was when he resigned.
So I'd say yes, that's a distinct possibility after Speaker Pelosi gets through with him.

5. You know what's really odd
I doubt he knew anything about Foley. I mean, would Hastert call him up and tell him about it? Yet, his numbers are falling because of it.

He can kill thousands of innocent people, but a pedophile in his party puts him in trouble.

18. He probably did know.
Because it's exactly the kind of thing that he and his friends would have a good giggle about.

Jeb would have known. Can you picture the Bush boys yakking about it?

Gossip for the campaign trail:

Jeb: George, you gotta do some photo ops with our boy Foley. Don't shake his hand too long, though. He might get off on it. Of course, you're a little old for him, but you do have boyish charm.

32. Are you kidding? Rove knew, that's for sure. Not sure what Jr. was told.
But you can be sure the blivet knew exactly how many of his congresscritters were gay under the radar, and as disgusting as pointing that out feels to me, the point is, it won't sit well with his fundy base, at all, when they find out. He's supposed to be the Christian King, who keeps the government pure and talks to God. Clenis was supposed to be the pervert. The most interesting time line to hit them over the head with will be that this predatorgate thing was actually going on WHILE the hypocritical, congenitally, lying Repubs were screaming about Monica and impeaching Bubba. Oopsy, bottomless hypocrisy that's hard to ignore.

Having closeted gay Republicans in the ranks is one way KKKarl pulls the strings. He's got dirt on everybody, and he knows everybody who's got dirt on everybody else, and in their base's intolerant mindset gay Republicans are dirty. Promising to keep gays from marrying and adopting, and playing their base with those 'values', while all the while having gays working Republican government at the highest levels is the 'sin' they won't forgive, especially with a pedophilia scandal hook to hang their bigotry against gay people on. So to sum it up, Republicans are screwed either way, because they are evil and corrupt, and they've been playing to the most vile, homophobic, racist, mysogynist values in their so called base for so long, its finally turned around and is taking a very, large chunk out of their collective, elephantine asses. Even their corporate base ain't gonna save them at this point is my guess. They are just that tainted, even the robber barons don't want to be seen with them anymore.

Maybe if the polls get low enough, which we can only hope and pray they will, Unca Karl will have a lot more difficulty 'convincing' his minions to fix the machines for him.

14. If you talk to them individually,
the 33% will fall into two categories. Some of them just don't have a clue about anything -- they probably don't know what a Congressional page is and they can't find America on a globe. The rest of them will tell you that they see problems with Bush, but they still think the alternatives are worse.

If his poll number does fall down to Cheney's level, he will probably be impeached and removed from office.

24. I was on a soap opera gossip board last night when a Foley fight broke out
Some people were still spouting Republican talking points, including one beauty in which Clinton's failure to resign in disgrace was responsible for Bush's election (I'm going to treasure that), but several people identified themselves as Republicans disgusted by Bush, conservatives disgusted by Bush, and one damn fool who was still claiming both parties were exactly the same.

When politics invades the soap boards, and it's at least the second time this week I've seen it, people are raging.

17. wow! read this:
Democrats now outdistance Republicans on every single issue that could decide voters’ choices come Nov. 7. In addition to winning—for the first time in the NEWSWEEK poll—on the question of which party is more trusted to fight the war on terror (44 to 37 percent) and moral values (42 percent to 36 percent), the Democrats now inspire more trust than the GOP on handling Iraq (47 to 34); the economy (53 to 31); health care (57 to 24); federal spending and the deficit (53 to 29); gas and oil prices (56 to 23); and immigration (43 to 34).

And even if the Republicans manage to bail out their ship before the midterms, they’ll have a hard time matching their one-time strengths to voters’ priorities. A third of registered voters, 33 percent, say the single most important issue that will decide their vote will be Iraq; compare to 20 percent who say the economy and only 12 percent who say terrorism, which ties with health care.

19. Now that's more like it, cutting into the dead-enders now.
And this is before the rest of what's coming in the Foley scandal really kicks in, and the Ralston/Abramoff/Rove thing heats up. Right about now, someone needs to leak the new even more damaging 'draft' report the CIA has of the real situation in Iraq. The Republicans are caught in quicksand now, let's throw them an anvil. For all the damage they've done to my country losing office is the nicest thing that could happen to them.

26. That's actually true.
If they lose, they have a chance to kibitz how we handle things. They have a chance to regain some moral strength by being out of power. If they win, it is ALL on them and NOTHING looks good coming down the pike right now.

Dems are going to inherit a pile of shit and a shovel.
