Foleygate Is Also About Sexual Harrassment In The Workplace |
|
I have seen this mentioned a few times, but it's an aspect of Foleygate that should be trumpeted loudly.
The RW shills are flying the "but the page was 16 and that's the age of consent in DC" trial balloon. But even if you stipulate that as a fact, it doesn't override the fact that a boss with power was bringing sexual pressure against a person in a subordinate position in the workplace.
Rs screamed about this very aspect of Monicagate. Why aren't they screaming about it now?

1. Not to mention that there's no "age of consent" . . . |
|
When it comes to stalking.
And even though this *is* a workplace harassment case, I think the youth aspect is what's really resonating with people.
Well, that's not actually true -- the biggest shivers are running through the homophobic community -- but the loco parentis relationship between congress and the pages (outside of any consent law) is where the offense comes in. Congress is entrusted with these young people, and that's what Foley violated.
And then, as Nixon learned to his eternal sorrow, it's not the crime, it's the cover-up.

If sexual harassment is about the abuse of power, the depths of the abuse, the blackmailing influences, the predatory blanket of silence has been spread inside the people's house like a virus.
Wrapped in a flag, training youngsters how democracy works from the inside.

5. Thank You!!! I've Experienced That |

When you are 24 and struggling to pay rent and you make $400 a week you really can't afford to piss off your millionaire boss who makes your skin crawl with his really really GROSS suggestions and comments every time he has drinks at lunch. It was a long time ago for me but I never said anything at the time. I think I would react differently now.

6. I've been saying this since last week! Thank you for pointing this out! |

It's surprising, isn't it, that this very obvious fact seems to be omitted from all the discussions in the media and also by the politicians.
Sexual Harrassment in the workplace is against the law and has serious consequences....
