5. If I had money for only one ticket.
I would SEND it to Howard Dean.

The MEMORY of hearing him speak
outstrips the experience of
Barack Obama's platitudes in the flesh.

7. I'm very uncomfortable with this man.

The whole concept of "rock-star" makes me shudder. Instant fame is fraught with dangers. Wild enthusiasm is something I am always skeptical about. What's behind this? Is this guy the real deal, or am I being fooled by the enthusiasm.

In spite of his awesome rhetorical abilities I have found little in Obama's words or issue positions to make me want to back him for anything except Senator. I certainly could not support him for President at this time. I want to see this guy in the Senate for a few years. Then, I will be able to make a more informed decision.

19. I agree he has been less than stellar in the Senate
but he sure knows how to speak. Hence, the rock star label.

29. He strikes me as a work in progress. Call me after he's served a couple
terms.

I'm tired of amateurs. I want someone who's dealt with politicians and won elections, not someone who looks and sounds good but is untested. The POTUS is not a good place for on-the-job training. I'll watch Obama and keep him in mind, but let him season a few years. Let him at least face a crisis and have to work through it.

I'm not uncomfortable with him, I just don't see anything that says he's ready. Many of his comments and some of his votes show an amateur's approach to politics--an attempt to win votes and support by taking the middle ground and appeasing the largest number of people, rather than making decisions based on a consistent ideology and a deep, practical knowledge of what's needed. He needs to understand that you win votes by being a good leader, not by showing you can follow the whims of public opinion.

Just my thoughts. I have the same opinion of several other potential candidates, so this isn't just an Obama thing.

32. Every new Senator is given a senior Senator to guide him
The DLC gave Obama Joe Lieberman as a mentor. The idea was to offset some of Obama's leftist leanings.

I've noticed ever since Lieberman lost the primary, Obama has been a bit less "centrist" in his speeches.

2. Barack Obama and John Edwards
Those two are the Democratic Party rock stars, by my understanding. If Harold Ford gets elected to the senate, he may get rockstar status, too.

(Bill Clinton has the rockstar aura but isn't as "good looking" as those two).

8. I'm sure he's great
but our last president was chosen soley on the way he made people feel upon seeing him and hearing him speak.

The problems we face are too big to leave our next presidency up to anything less than an exhaustive *executive search* for the absolute best, smartest, wisest leader out there, to lead our nation and the world out of the morass we've gotten into by voting with our "gut".

If that's Obama (and I don't think it will be, in 2008, but perhaps someday in the not to distant future), his smile and speaking ability will be rather trivial bonuses, in the big picture.

13. He's a great speaker...
But just another torture enabler.

Voting to torture and to give Bush an Ex Post Facto get out of jail free card is not something I can support. It amounts to a Bill of Attainder, which gives Monarchal powers to Bush.

Obama did not have the guts to stand up on this issue.

I don't give a shit what he looks like, he is a Bush enabler....I cannot support him.

Both IL Senators did. It's hardly their fault only 33 others had the guts to agree with them.

14. Obama IS a beautiful man inside and out....
This is the exact same position John Edwards was in in '02-'03, and some of us still think that if the 2004 Dem ticket were reversed...so... going with our guts now is not a bad thing !

I love listening to Obama speak, Edwards and Kucinich are my other favorite speakers. No wonder I have serious problems with Bush, he never has, can or will ever speak for me. I mean that literally too

27. Obama for President in 2012 or 2016
But not 2008. Why? He doesn't have enough experience! He's like Edwards in this regard. They're both charismatic, but too green. BTW, if I had to say who would become the first black President, it would either be Obama or Ford (assuming Ford beats Corker.)

33. I like Obama as VP for an experienced statesman like Gore
This country has serious problems. Whoever becomes president will need to hit the ground running. I'd rather have someone who comes into the job with a wealth of experience to draw on.

Barak Obama and John Edwards are both natural politicians with compelling personal stories but neither shows the experience and track record I want to see in a candidate.

but I'm disappointed in him. You can't talk the talk, if you can't walk the walk.

At least at this point, I think there are better candidates for '08.
