Back at the "Mall" this weekend....and What's for Sale?

Current Fashion Trend is dirty washed out jeans that look like someone "jacked off" and tried to wash it out...or someone had a bad day in their crotch and tried to bleach it out from the Female Side.

"Muffin Tops" are buying in our stores...and the stuff out there is too ugly and 70's Retro...to even THINK ABOUT!

I'm seeing folks streaming out of the malls with rolls over their "jacked off" bleached jeans trying to look COOL!

And seeing "shawl sweaters and bell bottoms" from what I remember of the darkest hours of the late 60's early 70's is FEAKING ME OUT!

What's wrong with Teens and 20 Somethings today that they want to look...well...GROSS.. Like some THROWBACK to a GENERATION they KNOW NOTHING ABOUT?

And in THOSE DAYS...folks were doing it as a PROTEST! Today it seems that the "Fried and fast foods" have caused it all to go to HELL! EAT and look like you are GRUNGY...like the California Revolition of the Beatles and Ken Kesey in the 60's from an ERA LONG PAST!

Anyone else see what I'm talking about? Where is BODY PRIDE these days?
"Muffin Tops" is those who wear very "low slung jeans" and lets their body rolls hang out...with a wide belt below...just to be IN STYLE!

Is MTV pushing this CRAP?

my local Department Store or Target or Walmart to find "elastic waists" that FIT ME!

I loved my oldie relatives who bought in those Departments ...but alas they are all dying or dead these days. I appreciate that they STILL tried to LOOK GOOD even into their 80's by buying nice clothes that suited their "age in life." (I need to learn their sense of Humility...though) :-( They were very good people who understood their "sense of place and time."

I just can't understand a generation trying to MIMIC the Late 60's and Early 70's who seem to know NOTHING about it...but what the "fashion mavens" who make the clothes in SLAVE LABOR COUNTRIES are TELLING THEM they NEED TO WEAR...even if it makes hem look GROSS...

We who wore "Bell Bottoms and low slung belts" were much "thinner" back then in those days. To see it RETRO ...with "Muffin Tops" kind of blows one's mind....:shrug:

I never thought I'd find myself in this predicament either. But it sure beats the hell out of squooshing your tight ass into a pair of stretch pants, or worse, sweats!

In fairness, not all girls have dunlap syndrome, my daughter's in very good shape even after having a child. She looks great in low slung jeans, even though she never lets her belly show anyway.

6. I'd rather see some fat hanging over the jeans

than a bunch of girls that are so obsessed with having no fat at all that they are ashamed of their bodies.

I'm not arguing in favor of being overweight, but people's bodies are what they are, and I think it's ridiculous to be slamming people for daring to have a bit of fat on their bodies without covering it up. If the complaint is that you think it's inappropriate for women to show their bellies, that's one thing. If the complaint is you think it's inappropriate for nonanorexic women to show their bellies, they aren't the one with the problem.

The world is not a runway; women are allowed to walk around looking however they want.

8. Well said...but growing up in a different time than you...I could

understand that we might differ.

Still...I hope to discuss how we could take better care of our bodies and why young folks are still allowing themselves to go with "FASHION GURU's" to make themselves look their WORST.

I think what my post is about is WHY would Teens and 20 Somethings want to present themselves at their WORST and NOT THEIR BEST.

I think it might be a cultural thing that's worth exploring and that's why I posted this. What if it's a MEDIA Cultural thing? Shouldn't we have moved beyond the MEDIA dictating what we wear? :shrug:

16. Taking care of our bodies is one thing

Being judgmental of others' appearances is another. You aren't really talking here about the need to get in shape so much as the need to present ourselves as having a flat stomach, and the need to cover it up if we don't. Changing fashions to hide "flaws" doesn't make us any healthier, you know?

We should have moved beyond ANYONE dictating what we wear, not just the media. We should have moved away from being judgmental about other people's appearances. We should have moved beyond feeling that women need to present themselves as sexually attractive.

Maybe a good place to start with the exploration is what you mean by presenting ourselves at our best. "Our best" seems to be a culturally constructed idea.

9. My friend's ten year old daughter was wearing checkered vans the other

day. I asked her if she knew that those were cool when her daddy and I were in high school.

She said, "Yes...I know. My daddy tells me that every day!"

It cracks me up to see the high school guys walking around with the same stupid hair styles we had in the seventies and eighties.

17. I saw two Gorgeous Females ( I'm hetero btw) buying what I thought were

the grossest militaristic tops in the store I was in today. They were faded with some kind of camouflage spots and it looked to me like something one would wear if one was a refugee from Bush America and not the Bush America he likes to tout about folks Maxing Credit Cards because Gas is Down and Economy is doing so well!

Worst was that both those young girls had "PRADA Style" bags and so their "pocket books were PRADA" but they were purchasing "Fatigues."

How can a parent who remembers the 60's early 70's DEAL WITH THIS? :eyes:
