Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 10:44 PM by babylonsister
talk tough? This couldn't be another - gasp - distraction, could it?

All I'm seeing is file footage and hearing talking heads. I'm bothered by
that. No threats, no reasons? Why would NK do this other than to pound their
breasts and to remind everyone they're still there?

1. South Korea
Has confirmed it. They claim they received a 3.58 seismic reading shortly after the test.

4. There has been a lot of seismic activity in east Asia lately.
They might have been waiting for a jiggle to 'announce' this test. We will see, I suppose.

6. Chinese claim they were given a 20 minute warning
and a test would occur.

8. Did that claim come from Beijing?...or from Pyongyang?
Do we know?

12. Is the idea that they would test a bomb really so hard to believe?
Why?

14. A nuke has a very, very specific seismic signature
which cannot mean anything but a nuke explosion. If countries are saying it was a nuke, that's what it was.

This wasn't an atmospheric test, was it?
Underground, right?

2. They gave the word, and everyone in the country yelled BOOOOOM
all at the same time!!

Someone told that joke the other night on tee vee...

Who knows? I'm guessing it was a closer to a dirty bomb than a great big nuke. We'll know soon enough. There was a seismic disturbance, and NK gave China a 20 minute warning.

5. I'm not going to believe it until it's confirmed by the USGS
and that could take an hour or more.

And yes, NK wants to be taken seriously.

Apparently the Chinese are not pleased. We'll see how they deal with it if it turns out to be true.

Nukes have a very characteristic seismic signature. That's the part that needs to be confirmed.

9. So I should assume we have another enemy. I'm really sick
of this, by the way/FWIW/nothing for nothing.
