Teacher in Waukegan, IL charged with battery

I just heard this on WGN radio....dunno if there's a link anywhere, but here's the gist:

A student came into class late, while a movie of some sort was being played. She turned off the lights, and the teacher said to turn them back on (or turned them on himself).

The student then tried to leave the room, and the teacher tried to keep her from leaving. When she put her hand on the doorknob, he apparently took her hand off.

I don't recall what the reporter said after that, but nothing more was said about any other physical contact, or how the police were involved, but the teacher (may have been a substitute) was arrested and charged with BATTERY.

it just sounds like a joke doesn't it .... charged with battery.


I do believe, technically speaking, any unwanted physical contact is battery. Assault is causing harm. Technically stopping her from leaving the room could be charged as a type of kidnapping in some instances.

3. if you poke somebody in the chest, that's battery, even if you barely

make contact.

if you swear at somebody, you can be charged with assault

I wonder if the girl swore at the guy, or touched him back, pushed his hand away, or something like that
