Hey, older DUers...remember this quote?
"As South Vietnamese forces become stronger, the rate of American withdrawal can become greater."
-- Richard Nixon --

35 years later, they were able to shorten this to a more manageable sound bite: "as the Iraqis stand up, we will stand down"
Wow. What progress.

1. They...they being Bush's speech writers...have scoured
other speeches from past Presidents during a time of war and have "borrowed" phrases, words, terms, etc to use

I recall an article talking about how Bush used some phrases from FDR's speeches....changed a round a bit...in a speech Bush gave...might have even been a state of the union address.

The hubris of trying to turn a country into what it already is.

That worked well....:eyes:

19. I remember that s.o.b.
I remember all too well. No Bush has ever had an original, creative or even honest position to present to the public. And I never did trust Nixon anyway.

I'm from 1950 ... I was ten years old when Kennedy debated Nixon on the television machine. And I still remember watching it and talking to my Mom about it.

The sad part of it for me is that we thought when he resigned we had forced him out, and that when we passed some legislation about campaign finance the problem was fixed and we could start our lives at last, finally out from under a threatening political cloud that hung over us all the time.

Silly us.
