Lightening Strikes and HW Bush's Navel Carrier Christening
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 10:34 AM by lovuian
During Bush's speech Lightening and Thunder attempted to stop Bush's speech
but HW Told God to hold off until he was finished

Meanwhile the crowd was praying they wouldn't be struck down

Is this a sign or what...

HW tells God what to do

6. deafening thunderclaps, etc. left speakers abandoning prepared remarks

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 7 — It was a rare and poignant moment, one that moved President Bush to tears.

Not the current President Bush, but the first, who was joined Saturday at a shipyard here by dozens of political luminaries and his extended clan — including the son he calls “the president” — to christen a Navy aircraft carrier bearing his name.

The christening of the George H. W. Bush, the latest and last in the Navy’s line of Nimitz aircraft carriers, took place under rainy skies, punctuated by thunderbolts so sharp that at one point, the elder Mr. Bush interrupted his speech, looked skyward and said: “I’m finishing, Lord! I’m finishing!” He seemed to burst with pride as he pronounced the occasion “any naval aviator’s dream come true.”

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061008/ap_on_re_us/bush_aircraft_carrier

The christening ceremony was scheduled to be nearly two hours long, but deafening thunderclaps, lightning, wind and intermittent heavy rain left the speakers mostly abandoning their prepared remarks to merely introduce the next in line.

12. Lightning hit Jeb Bush's plane
http://www.sptimes.com/2003/02/28/State/Lightning_hits_govern.shtml

MIAMI BEACH -- Gov. Jeb Bush's plane was struck by lightning as it flew from Tallahassee to Orlando Thursday.

None of the seven people aboard the Beechcraft King Air was injured, said Alia Faraj, a spokeswoman for the governor.

The twin-engine plane landed safely in Orlando. The governor and his staff then took another plane to Miami Beach, where Bush's schedule included meeting with Manuel Angel Nunez Soto, the governor of the state of Hidalgo in Mexico.

Speaking at the Miami Beach convention center, Bush commented on the lightning strike.

13. As a retired Navy Chief...
I'm thinking that's not a very good sign for a ship's reputation. I've been on too many ships that had mishaps during christening; morale is generally poor and everyone's always quick to point out bad luck they normally wouldn't on any other ships. No matter how long the ship's been on "active duty" or how many overhauls they go through, Navy ships tend to keep the reputation they develop during the first couple years in service.

In fact, I'm thinking that there's more than a few of the crew that's hopeing that they're going to be able to transfer before she goes on her first official shake-down cruise.
