When will the GOP/Guns Old Party Ever Learn!

I am so sick of the GOP/Guns Old Party talking about the right to bear arms.

They have created TERRORISTS right here in River City!
Yet another shooting attempt at a High School.

1. It may be true that guns don't kill people, people kill people...
But guns make it a HELL of a lot easier for people to do the dirty deed.:grr:

5. Sure do and Timmy Mc V

and company know/knew that the Guns Old Party will be happy as hell that people keep on being afraid of everything and everybody, especially those with brown tints, and the $$$$'s for their lobbyists keep on rolling.

6. Hope your guns are locked in that closet

I'm not saying that YOU are terrorists, I am saying that the Guns Old Party uses the Rifle Association to have people contribute to their fund raisers.

11. hey, no prob.
It's amazing that some people can stereotype gun owners into one catagory, when only it's a small percentage of gun owners that are violent criminals, or irresponsible.

kinda like labeling all Muslims as terrorists, or all middle eastern people as such.

12. I 've owned one too, I was not saying YOU
belonged to the NRA at all.

I was talking about members of the GOP.

I'm sure you are a Democrat.

End of discussion.

3. I must've missed it - they've won each of the last 20+ elections...
... what exactly do they need to "learn"?

It's the American electorate that needs to learn. Once they've had enough, then the gop will have something to learn.

4. Don't...
ever run for office unless you're in a city. You'll run into trouble even among Dems by campaigning against guns. Dems like gun control, not gun removal. Millions of Americans own guns to hunt with or for other recreational activities and to defend their home. That doesn't mean we need assault rifles, of course.

The first couple comments are exactly right...people don't kill people, but they make it easier for nutjobs to kill people. That's the key focus. We need to take the precautions to keep guns out of the hand of nutjobs.

7. Please check your stereotypes....
There are many on the Left, even here on the FAR Left with me, that also believe in the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

The founders called them "Liberty Teeth" for a reason.

Every time a tragedy occurs, folks look for someone or something to blame; I guess it's human nature to do so.

Personally, I would hold most of the news media (who almost always launch into an orgy of sensationalistic coverage when it happens, spawning copycat incidents) and heavily medicated, often severely bullied, damaged kids far more responsible than any inanimate object.

But hey....have at it; gunhating is a time-honored sport on the Left. It has reliably lost us elections time and time again. ;)

19. Sad but true.
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 08:10 PM by Donald Ian Rankin
I think the US would benefit massively from the repeal of the 2nd ammendment and a decent level of gun control - what we have here in the UK strikes me as about right - but it would be the electoral equivalent of putting one of the guns you're confiscating in your mouth and squeezing the trigger. The Democrats need to continue to unambiguously support the RKBA, sadly, even though it's responsible for thousands of needless deaths every year.

10. When will Democrats ever learn?
When will they learn that the belief that they want to disarm rural and blue collar folks is their single biggest negative?

Why is it that Canada has near the per capita gun ownership of the US with only a fraction of the gun violence?

Never in even the most fascistic of dreams will guns be removed from his country, too ingrained in the culture, too necessary for rural life, too useful to criminals and there's just so damned many of them. The kind of repression required to attempt such an ill-begotten scheme would make North Korea look like fun.

13. I am not trying to disarm anyone

I am saying that the GOP learned to USE the issue of guns for their own purposes to get votes.

Democrats don't have that as a major issue.

14. The point is - They COULD.
If the Party could take this issue away from the Right, it would go a long, long way in bringing the Democratic Party back to it's populist roots.

The major obstacle to this is, well frankly, us.

Post a pro-gun thread in GD and the anti zealots will come out of the woodwork. You will be denounced from almost all sides of the debate. :hide:

I just keep my powder dry, the arms oiled and my mouth shut.

I fight that battle one person at a time, and in person.

I've had a few converts, so it IS a worthwhile effort.

The NRA, however, can FOAD as far as I'm concerned. :puke:

15. I feel the same about the NRA
I own guns, pistols in fact, but I see the NRA as just a political organization. If they really wanted to free us gun owners from these stupid restrictive laws in New England, they'd take a lesson from the ACLU and start suing. But they are not serious.

That is why I have an ACLU card, and not a NRA card in my wallet.
