Poll question: How will future generations refer to Bush? (Poll)
Washington is usually referred to as "The father of our country." Lincoln is ofter referred to as "Honest Abe," or "The great emancipator."

Assuming our country -- and the rest of the world -- survives the madman currently in the Oval Office, how do you think future generations will refer to him?

Of course earth is going to be invaded in 2012 by evil robotic hordes who will give Bush credit for having weakened Earth enough that they could invade. The members of the resistance will refer to him as a "scum bucket" or "frikin' moron."

14. Reagan won't be viewed any better
Once the propaganda fades and historians see the trends that his administration started, he'll be reviled right up there besides Bush. Of that I have no question.

24. "But, but, but he defeated the Soviets..."
That idiotic mantra will be repeated as long as Limbaugh and other RW pundits have breath in their lungs.

Of course speaking as an American who speaks and has lived 4 years in Russia and Eastern Europe, is married to an Eastern European, and has studied post and pre-1990 Russia/Eastern Europe I can say without a doubt that "The Soviets defeated the Soviets and we should learn from their mistake." but hell, what do I know.

37. History will record that it wasn't Reagan at all
as the propaganda fades and scholarship takes over in a new contest.

The Soviets were finally taken out by the cheap oil glut of the 80's, which was both a happenstance of the North Sea and the North Slope oild fields coming on line and Sheik Yamani's "brilliant" decision to keep the West oil dependent- and discourage conservation by pewrsuading OPEC to keeep oil prices artificially low.

As a consequence, the USSR lost tons of hard cash from its it major export, which along with an ill conceived war, collapsed the crony economic system.

Historians will draw parellels to that and the impending troubles the US faces- and will not be able to avoid at this point, thatnks to Republican policies

40. There's a little more to it than just that
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 09:32 PM by YOY
The post-Stalin era of the 'Greedy Old Men' and the true corruption of the party as natural resources were exploited and technological advancements were not used to improve every day life.

Combine it with poor infrastructure, agricultural programs that actual returned less than they did with almost every year, a system of industrial and construction goals that met state met quotas by abusing the quality and even type of product/structure made...

Not to mention the complete lack of free speech and some hella bad human rights records...

Some of the connections are a little scary to what is happening here.

Also, they did not rely on petroleum any where near the consuption levels of the US. Coal however was big and still is: can you say "polution all over!" Most Russians did not own a Lada or Moskvich as production did not really mean to keep up with demand...my father-in-law has one that's nearly 30 years old...runs like a top...a very rusty slow top.

23. The American Facist hopefully
more likely similar to Reagan, but less favorably. Some loving him, some hating him.

Worst case, the start of anything, because anything continuing from him will be horrible.
examples, the man who started ww3, the start of 50 years of republican rule, the rise of american facist.

35. Sadly, I think he'll be "remembered" as
part of a series of lackluster leaders, hard to tell apart, all in various proportions arrogant, incompetent, sadistic, and vengeful, who presided over the fall of America. Look at Rome or any Chinese dynasty for an example. His name won't go down in history, he'll just be one of those crappy 21st century presidents.
