I am sick and tired of my nation being known around the world as one that can only break things and kill people.

I grew up in an America that stood for the rights of citizens of all nations. It no longer speaks to that, it speaks to fascism. One of the points of fascism is a military uncontrolled by civilian government and that's exactly what we now have.

I believe that one way that we can have influence to change all this is thru art, song in particular, and our National Anthem in point of fact. The Star Spangled Banner speaks of war. Not the goodness of Americans. Not the beauty of our land. War. Bombs. Rockets.

I believe that a far more representative song for our country would be the great one by Woody Guthry: This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land. It speaks to the fact that our nation belongs to ALL of us, not just to the republican corporate donors.

To this end I am writing a snail mail letter to Howard Dean at DNC requesting that the party adopt this song as it's campaign song for this election and the next. I believe that the emotions conveyed by Guthry touch the hearts of everyone and will stand in good stead to attract voters to our beliefs compared to republican child molesters.

I'm of the hope that, if the Party will take this song as it's own, that one day soon it can symbolize life and replace the Star spangled Banner, which symbolized death.

Replace the Star Spangled Banner? lol

2. What do you see as holy or untouchable about the star spangled banner?

It was only adopted as the national anthem in 1931. Not as if it has centuries behind it. And it was adopted only thirteen years before Guthry wrote the song.

It's my belief that in these times of a nation just sick to death of war and in particular a war it never wanted and now realizes it was lied into, an anthem that glorifies war is no longer reflective of the national feelings.

But that's really beside the point. My intention was to suggest that at a time when a majority of the nation is opposed to all the trouble the republicans have caused us, the Democratic Party would do well to adopt a party song that glorified not war, but the beauty and splendor of our nation, and "This land is Your Land" certainly does that!

I believe that by adopting this song as the party's campaign song, any repuglican suggestions of "unpatriotic" and "unamerican" would be immediately disarmed. They simply couldn't raise such suggestions while we were singing to glorify our nation.

You may disagree, and that's your right.

The mention of replacing the Star Spangled Banner was just my personal opinion, and while it's a hope, it's certainly a forlorn hope as your posting points out.
