Poll question: 2008 Dem. Primary is Today. Only Two Candidates. Who Gets Your Vote?
Do I really have to post a disclaimer that this is hypothetical? That I know Clinton & Edwards won't be the only names on the ballot? Etc., etc., etc.?

In alphabetical order:

1. That's almost enough to make me look at GOP candidates.
Almost.

3. Post another similar poll.
I'm very curious about this. Pit one of these against another Democratic contender.

31. Don't worry
The Rethugs and corporate media whores agree with you 100% so you have nothing to worry about. Way too much spine! We'll have to hope it's another Dem with a spine who gets it, unlike last time.

Don't give up hope! There's a good chance we will once again have a terrible candidate who will run a shitty campaign! ;-)

4. ABH
Anybody But Hillary. I'll write in someone else's name if she's the only one standing my the time my state votes (NY, but with the way the primaries are being front-loaded, Super Tuesday matters less.)

8. Probably Al Gore
Or maybe another candidate who has already dropped out by this time and dropped out too early for the deadline for my state's ballot.

11. Funny thing is that Super Tuesday used to be considered front loading
At this rate, our nominees will be chosen before February. It used to be that candidates could announce a presidential campaign in April (although the convention was a bigger deal back then).

29. I like Gore and so does Somerby
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=2937874

but Somerby thinks it would be hard for Gore to win.
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh041906.shtml
"But that doesn’t make Gore the near-perfect candidate—because of the matter which Cohen omits. Uh-oh! Unfortunately, Cohen and his Millionaire Pundit Colleagues have spent the bulk of the past eight years turning Gore into a public buffoon. Result? Gore’s approval numbers are very low. When the Roper Center did a survey in February, for example, Gore’s “favorables” were 27 percent—and his “unfavorables” stood at 46. By contrast, Hillary Clinton was 42 percent favorable, 40 percent unfavorable. John McCain—the press corps’ greatest saint—was 40-18, favorable. Rudy Giuliani—another press saint—stood at 49-15. (Bush: 36-49. Cheney: 29-50. Gore: 27-46!)"

So I kinda hope he does not run, because he might win the nomination but lose in the general.

33. um . . . Al Gore WON in 2000 . . . both the popular and the electoral . .
vote . . . and his credibility and likability quotients have soared off the charts since then, thanks largely to his work to educate the populace about global warming . . . he would be a superb candidate . . .

10. I know it's not a good reason. . .
But I've got to go with Hillary. I've waited too long for the opportunity to vote "woman" for president. I can't think of a republican woman I would vote for, though, so I know I'm being a little hypocritical!

28. Please not Al Gore...
By 2008 rolls around I think the country is going to be massively on a anti-Washington bent. Which means Gore and H. Clinton would be very bad ideas for the Dem candidate. Forget about any congressmen, former VPs, and other high profile Washington players. A better candidate would probably be someone who's currently a Governor.

32. Yes! Al Gore please!
I think the country is in need of someone who knows what they are doing and won't have to learn their way around Washington before getting anything done.

Read up on Clinton's early days and see for yourself what a stumbling block that was.

Run Al, run! :toast:

Julie

PS Besides, I am unaware of any Gov who'd make a good candidate.

35. Sorry. Al Gore is clearly the best candidate for a long list of reasons.
Not the least of which is, he understands that the Environment is the number ONE security issue facing us in this century.

He's the best candidate, far and away. I think a Gore-Feingold ticket will be hard to beat.

27. Not as dire as it looks.
Between those two, Edwards. But I'd vote for either in the general.

And also in the mix to contend with are: Kerry, Gore, Clark, Feingold, Boxer, Obama, Warner, Harkin, Dean, etc.

None of them are perfect. All of them are in their various ways smart and caring enough to lead this country, IMO. (especially after experiencing the *cross fingers* rock bottom of how low we can go).

I think we have a DAMN deep talent pool. We are not desperate - far from it.

All these arguments are about who might make the most effective commercials - but the truth is that our party is full of people who would do us great honor once they got there.
