The 5 Barriers of the Right Wing |
|
The New Right is protected by a series of beliefs and such that protect it from attacks. If the Democrats get a majority in the House and/or the Senate it should be OUR task to take down these barriers and make the Right Wing vulnerable to attack.
The 5 Barriers:
1. The 'liberal' Media - Allows for RW'ers to discount ANYTHING said against them, because the media has a so-called bias against them.
2. The 'christian' Right - Allows for RW'ers to have armies of unquestioning supporters. (If we can alter their definitions of "Pro-Life" and "Moral Values", then we will score a quick victory against this barrier)
3. The Bush Administration - The sum of all the work of the New Right. If this falls, then the New Right will look like a failure, and the different factions will no longer have a reason to work together.
4. 'persecution' - Accuses Institutions of favoring Liberals, when these neutral institutions cave in to RW demands, they actually end up becoming Right Wing. (War on Christmas, Persecution of Christians, Persecution of Conservatives at Universities, etc.)
5. Stealth - The American New Right is one of the first ideologies in history that has tried to be as quiet as possible, stealth candidates, secret legislation, secret Presidents, etc.
Smashing these barriers is the only way we can sure ensure a permanent victory against the New Right.

2. I run into #1 all the time |
|
It does not matter what it is - a statistic, a quote, a news report, etc. A report that the Earth orbits the Sun is discounted as liberal MSM fabrication by Bush supporters if it is not from FOX, NewsMax, Rush, etc.
I have noticed that they often do not post any links in on-line debates. Seems like they are really ashamed of their sources.

3. I don't think there's any "quick victories" on #2... |
|
"If we can alter their definitions of "Pro-Life" and "Moral Values", then we will score a quick victory against this barrier"
For example, as I see it, the fundies believe that abortion is wrong. No matter how you try to define "Pro-Life", as long as you support abortion, they're not going to be on your side, no matter what. The only hope of preventing them from blindly following the RW is to get repuke candidates that are also Pro-Choice. Then they may just stay home on election day, but since we're not repukes, we don't really have very much influence in who they put up as candidates. In districts with a lot of fundies, you can bet your ass that they will put up people who adhere to the basic fundie beliefs because that's where the votes are.
Personally, I can't think of any definition of "Pro-Life" or "Moral Values" that would both follow our beliefs and could be adopted by the fundies in favor of their current definitions. Of the 5 points above, I think this will be the MOST difficult to score any victories on, from a political perspective.
