Talk about FEAR - report on Evangelicals on NBC Nightly news
2004 - voted for Bush 96% to 4% for Kerry. Interviewed them on Foley scandal - the Stepford bunch for the most part said that they had to stick with the GOP at the midterms - couldn't imagine voting for a Dem! It is really important that many of this scary bunch stay home! What happened in these people's lives - how did they get this way?

2. When you live in a gated community all your life...
... you don't have to deal with the "untouchables" very often. Add religious bigotry to that and you have the Republican prototype. A white person who loves how things are and are scared to death of change.

There is no hope for them.

3. two things -- first is easy --
the media -- which is direct corporate representation -- keeps the populace under a constant barage of fear.
i.e. fox news, wapo, wa times, even the nytimes, etc
they do this because a ''virtuous, believing citizenry'' is malleable.

second -- this is harder -- fundamentalism has morphed the message.
i.e. a peace loving christ -- a social justice loving christ -- to a warrior, hating, get a job christ.
that's a vast over-simplification and over looks visions of grandeur that nationalize their vision of the faith --

11. I've definitely seen evidence of the "warrior Christ"
Someone tried to argue to me that Jesus loved war and wasn't a "hippie peace-lover" because of his quote "I came not to bring peace but a sword." The dumb shit didn't understand that it was a metaphor and that Jesus didn't literally mean that he came to earth to start fights.

10. These people are not only frightening -- but frightened.
These are the people who score high on Adornon's F Scale; they have authoritarian personalities. Adorno developed it to predict those who become GOOD GERMANS.

13. For those of you with XM...on XMPR tomorrow
the Bob Edwards show is having a guest to talk about evangelical culture and how they are awaiting the rapture.

Tuesday, October 10:
Bob talks with Lauren Sandler about her new book, Righteous: Dispatches from the Evangelical Youth Movement. Sandler, a self-professed "atheist Jew", traveled the country interviewing mega church pastors, young Christian rockers, Intelligent Design proponents and skateboarders for Christ. Then Bob talks with singer/songwriter Mindy Smith, who left home and enrolled in seminary school at age 19 after the death of her mother. Those experiences informed her award-winning debut album, and her faith and anger are tested again on her newest CD, "Long Island Shores."

16. Yeppers! That's Why I Keep Saying Don't EVER Let Your
Guard down! Keith was just talking about that on his show! Truly UNBELIEVABLE, but mostly absolutely HYPOCRITICAL! I hope I'm NEVER "saved" cause it's could be a traumatic experience!!

Was once an over-zealous Catholic, but that was a long time ago. I did search for another religion but could never find one that I could relate to, so I went SPIRITUAL! Some might call it an excuse, but for me it just makes so much more sense.

One more thing.... we still have Election Fraud and I don't doubt that the game is still front and center for the "evil ones!"

25. Well...
Since that woman in the "Jesus Camp" movie admires the Taliban, I agree with you 100%. The Homeland Security people should be watching her, but Bush loves Fundies so much that I doubt she's on their list.

19. Mega churches and hypocracy
Ive had it with the tax exempt status and political brainwashing going on at these places. If a church has a coffee shop, rec center, it's own exclusive sports leagues and venues or is planning such- it is no longer a house of God but a social club. I have seen churches hold benefits and fund-raisers in bars as well and I'm just so turned off by the hypocracy. Long live the small one room church and it's humble foundation. Very few and far in between these days. As a musician, I refuse to have my band(s) play any benefits for churches at a bar, or when they serve alcohol. I like to drink and play bars often, but churches shouldn't be bending their own rules for their "fund" (profit) raising.

26. I've Seen Fundies in the Casino Where I Work
Gambling just like everyone else & drinking like everyone else. At least when I was younger the Fundies tended to practice what they preached. It seems like the bigger their churches get, the less devout they seem. It's really just about politics & fascism with them now.

I've always said that these evangelicals were hypocrites and their continued support of a party that protects child predators proves it.

22. Saw 2 of them on Olberman.
Julia Lawson is an attractive, youngish (i'm terrible at judging age) female.

She had that obvious glow of self-righteousness. She was positively beaming with that self-centered, 'I've got the Hot Line to God' certainty.

After some thought, I think the only way to communicate with people like Julia is a soft, fluffy pie in the face.

27. The ministers of these evangelical mega churches
will keep pushing the repukes as long as they keep getting lots of our tax dollars through Bush's "faith-based initiatives". That's just bush's way of funneling our money to these people to help buy their votes.

28. It's cult madness.. They are the "if it's good enough" people.
Think about it - instead of joining a cult compound and living together on adjacent earth like the Jones and Koresh followers, they live together on the airwaves. Falwell and Robertson and the others tell them how to think and talk and take their money. There is no right or wrong to what they are told, no need to decide or choose - if it came from the reverends and it's patriotic - it's the perfect combination. Logic and facts don't matter. "If it's good enough" for our President and our Reverend Robertson, it's good enough for me. They can also be called the "cross, flag, and tablet" people.

Undying loyalty to the Word of the Rev and the Prez, bound by the kool-aid of abortion and spreading out from there.

A machine and scheme that steals votes? Not possible. They would never do that. No, I don't want to look at your proof and indicators. Republicans would never do that. My cousin works at the polls. She's as honest as they come.
