Is Jim Baker senile?
He sounded really stupid on Charlie Rose. Another over rated white fossil.

it. Still he dealt with the questions well, unlike most pubs would have.

I'm sure that's what the Rove machine would like us to believe.

5. Why are 100 year old men allowed to ruminate on the Good Old Days...
...with our soldiers' lives and our nation's credibility and stature in the world. Would you call your Grandpa to hook up your new computer or DVD player? Would you ask your Grandpa to pick out your new car for you? But these grandpas are still jabbering on and on about the way things were, still fighting the same bogeymen they fought as young men. Things change, gramps! Time to get on that ice flow and set yourself adrift. You've outlived your usefullness!

9. Look, I'm not about to defend Baker.... Reagan's Alzheimers
certainly should have taught us to be wary...But, Bush Jr was among our youngest when he came into the WH, but clearly had severe mental deficiencies even then...So the age correlation is less than perfect. Some elder statesman/women not only maintain their high level of mental acuity well into their 80s, but probably do so largely as a result of being flexible in their thinking and ability to process change... So, let's not be quite so horrifically ageist ("Things change, gramps! Time to get on that ice flow and set yourself adrift. You've outlived your usefullness!")

12. I'm not speaking of 43, I'm speaking of the 100 year old men
Skip the "ageist" stuff. You're right, some elder statesmen DO maintain high levels of mental acuity. But apparently, not the ones pulling Bush's strings. Otherwise, how do you explain the mess they've created? Doesn't sound like the product of mentally acute minds to me.

Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 12:53 AM by hlthe2b
but you are using ageism as your issue to oppose them.... Baker, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush SR. and JR were incompetent when they were much younger... Age could only exaggerate a problem that was there all along...

By your definition, Pres. Jimmy Carter should have been tossed aside long ago, no one should read or listen to Gore Vidal, Senator Byrd's impassioned speech against the war and the Iraqi War Resolution, should have been chalked off as the ramblings of an old demented man..

33. Whoa! Thanks for that breaking news!
I thought I was immune to aging. I guess you guys sure showed me.

What a crock. This place has simply gone nuts. If someone mentions Rhododendrons in an uncomplimentary way, it seems half of DU will log on to decry "Rhododendron-ism!"

OF COURSE I know I'll be old too someday. And I fully expect that some portion of the people will think I'm just a crazy old coot, too! I guess I just have to deal with the fact that many on DU are absolute-ists, and if you say ANYTHING, you had better be prepared for these people to apply your words universally to everyone who ever lived.

My comment stands...why are 100 year old men running the show? I don't care about Jimmy Carter or Art Linkletter or Rip Van Winkle. What I am talking about are FRESH IDEAS. I heard a story on NPR a few years ago about research into aging and the creative process, wherein a study indicated that the brain simply stops trying to innovate and be creative after a certain point, and we fall back on what we already know. The used Eric Clapton as an example. Listen to his music then and now (if you can handle the "now"). What used to be exciting and different and innovative is now reduced to album after album of the same damned stuff. He doesn't take risks anymore, he doesn't try anything new. The creative process is no longer a yearning to seek out new ways to assemble notes and sounds, it is about safety as one faces ones inevitable mortality. When was last time you heard an innovative new rock band comprised of 75 year olds?

That's all I'm saying. I am not being "ageist." I am saying that running the government certainly takes a certain level of life experience, but sometime innovation and creativity are called for to solve vexing problems, and that means finding some fresh thinking and fresh ideas.

But then, who am I to say? I'm just an aging writer and artist and doesn't know jack.

38. I guess once you hit 50, you should forget about going back to
school and learning anything new, right? After all, you're going to be too old to pick up FRESH IDEAS there... NEW CONCEPTS... Its not like you can become INNOVATIVE and CREATIVE, right?

7. No way in hell is he senile. Jon's Seat of Heat question proved it
Jon asked if a boat went down and there was one life preserver, which President gets it, Bush Sr. or Bush Jr.? ("41 or 43")

Baker danced, and just as Jon tried to declare that Baker himself could swim, Baker said, "The Chief of Staff gets it." Refused to compare Presidents, completely thwarted Jon's question.

The man is NOT senile.

there. Daddy Bush is running this show. He has been for a long time. Jr is just a puppet. They roll him out every morning, wind him up and then give him his speech for the day. Jeb is in the wings, along with Neil and the rest of this very sick and dysfunctional family. Best part is, they are rich and don't have to give a shit. Please everyone go back to Iran/Contra scandal, all the "players" are back and in control.

CRIMINALS, convicted and pardoned of treason, by Bush Senior and now we have Junior. I guess because of their pardons, we are to believe they have reformed themselves while out in Corporate America, doing good things for us NOT! My sister in law worked for Halliburton, Corporate. She traveled the world on behalf of "human resources" for the "company".

Negrepnote and Bolton are all I need to be sorry for what we have unleashed upon this world and remember it is in our name.

Look up Rumsfeld and his connections.

It is rather sick and sad and I am sick and sad.

I'm consistently beyond amazed at what is happening.THESE MEN ARE BACK RUNNING OUR GOVERNMENT AND OUR COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND. BEST OF ALL, THEY ARE DOING IT IN OUR NAME.

35. YES!!!

This should be it's own thread because THIS is exactly what has destroyed our country.

It is not GW Bush.

He is way too stupid, he is nothing more than a dangerous toy.

That is all he is ~ POPPY is and has been running this country for a long long time and he and Baker control everything.

CHENEY is not in charge of anything, he is designed to be the Mean Man but he is NOT in charge.

Recall that he had a meeting, in the WH on 9/10 with POPPY.

GW was no where around.

Go back and do a search of Octafish and POPPY. Your hair will curl with the TRUTH .
